Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAROL KLEIMAN January 11, 1932 - August 15, 2016 Mother, Wife, Author, University Lecturer Carol Kleiman was born in Winnipeg. She lived as a child with her Mother and Father, her sister Gloria and her brother Chris. Her father died when she was in grade school. In the 1950's Carol attended the University of Manitoba where she became passionate about English literature and met her future husband Ed. Carol and Ed eloped to England where they married, and travelled through Europe. Carol and Ed then lived in England where they taught high school. They subsequently returned to Winnipeg to start a family in the late 1950's. Carol was a loving mother and wife. Her first love was of family and she said the best years of her life were raising her four children Ben, Joan, Kathy and Dan. She loved being a part of the Winnipeg community neighborhood of River Heights in the 60's and 70's, hosting family barbecues with guitar and singing around the bonfire, storytelling and fireworks. She also enjoyed camping, sailing, and traveling with her family. Throughout the summers of the 60's and early 70's she would organize camping road trips across Canada and the U.S. Her travels with family took her across The Prairies, The Rocky Mountains, The West Coast, Vancouver Island, The North Shore of Lake Superior, Toronto, The Maritimes, The Eastern Seaboard, and The American Midwest. She lived a memorable year with her family in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1974-75 participating in the community and writing. In the 1970's, while completing her thesis, she became interested in Irish literature and the plays of Sean O'Casey. She subsequently published a book entitled Sean O'Casey's Bridge of Vision: Four Essays on Structure and Perspective (1980), a critical work on Irish playwright Sean O'Casey. She also became active in the Canadian Association of Irish Studies, and her roles included Secretary Treasurer. She became a part time lecturer of English Literature at the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg, where she inspired and motivated students with her passion, respect and insight. She was much loved, respected and appreciated by family, friends, colleagues and students. Her greatest relationship was with her husband Ed Kleiman (1932-2013) and they remained the love of each other's life. She is survived by her children Ben, Joan, Kathy, Dan, and grandchildren Chantal, Jenai, Michael, James Aaron "AJ", Laura, Michelle, Kayle, Eamon, and Jacob, her sister Gloria, and her nephew James.
