ROSE SLAYEN (nee ZINMAN) Rose Slayen (nee Zinman), born March 6, 1923, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2017 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph (Joe); her parents, Tziporah and Menashe; siblings, Samuel (Pauline), Bill (Florence) and Lil (Izzy Satanoff); and brothers and sisters-in-law, Hookey and Ruth Slayen and Dora and Sam Meyer. Surviving are her children, Alvin and Phyllis Slayen and Sheila and David Steiman. She was the proud Baba of Sari and Brian Rosenberg, Erin Slayen and Ryan Mowchun, Jennifer and Sam Banayan, Michelle and Jordan Edelman, Joshua Slayen and Cheryl Steiman - as well as loving great-grandbaba of Jordan, Dylan, Abby, Jack and Layla. Rose is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and friends. Rose and Joe lived on Enniskillen in Winnipeg's North End, where they raised their family. Rose was an avid knitter, crocheter, cook and baker. Rose loved entertaining and she was the ultimate hostess. She made everyone feel welcome with her warmth and generosity. She loved to please everyone by preparing their individual favourites. In later years, Rose faced health challenges that prompted her move to the Simkin Centre. Her greatest joys were getting phonecalls and visits and hearing of the accomplishments and plans regarding her children and grandchildren. Rose had deep love and pride for family and will be forever remembered for her strength. The family would like to express their gratitude to those who provided care to our beloved Rose. Special thanks to Paulina who helped Rose maintain her dignity to the very end. Graveside funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Rosh Pina Memorial Park. Rose's memory may be honoured through donations to the Joe and Rose Slayen Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Alvin and Phyllis, my deepest condolences for your great loss. "Rosela", as my Mom and Dad always used to call her, had a heart and soul that shone brighter than the sun. She (and Joe) was one of the last of the "Saturday Night Gang" now gone, that started when I was just a kid. When my Dad was going through a tough health time years ago........Rose was the one who called me every single night to see how he was. She was just that extraordinary and caring. I consider myself so incredibly fortunate to be able to spend a bit of time with her in her last couple of years. I just adored her. She was a "link" for me to the past and those good old days. I will miss her so, but I will never forget her. love, Martin - Posted by: Martin (Family friend) on: Aug 24, 2017
