RONALD JAMES GEORGE BRERETON Ronald James George Brereton born March 6, 1935. Peacefully, with family by his side, Ron died on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the age of 82. He was predeceased by his second wife Frieda in 2010, and his sister Francis Baldwin in March of this year. He is survived by his children, Tom (Francie Young); Ron (Karen), Tavia and Amy; Jo-Anne (Pat) McNeil, Taylor and Sarah; Lori Brandt, Andrew, Wolfgang and Sebastian; Kelly (Vasco) Gil, Matthew and daughter Paisley, Matthew and William. Ron was born in Winnipeg to Henny Brereton (nee Hagen) of Hamburg, Germany and Thomas Brereton originally from Kerdiffstown, Ireland. At the age of three he travelled with his mother and sister to Germany to visit relatives when the Second World War broke out and was not permitted to leave for eight long years. They survived incredible and traumatic events during the war and were reunited with their father in Winnipeg in the spring of 1946. Ron had a strong sense of family and community. He loved spending time with family and friends or fishing. He volunteered for many years at Misericordia Hospital as "the Fish Guy" and St. Boniface Wildlife Association in many different capacities. He was happiest surrounded by family and friends or fishing. The family would like to acknowledge Tache Nursing Home 5C and 4AB for the exceptional caring and compassion they showed each and every day. A celebration of his life will take place Wednesday, August 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a special toast at 2:30 p.m. at Canad Inns Windsor Park, 1034 Elizabeth Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
