MACKENZIE MARIE GAIR April 20, 2008 - August 14, 2017 Cuddled in our arms at home, our sweet baby girl took her last breath. Although our hearts are shattered, we find comfort that Mackenzie is now free to run, dance and play. Mack's life may have seemed short too many, but she experienced more in her nine years than many do in a lifetime. Although Mackenzie's illness made her appear frail; she possessed strength, perseverance and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With her strength and courage she showed us that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Mack enjoyed cuddling up with loved ones watching her favourite movies or listening to her favourite books. Before Batten Disease took a hold of her body she enjoyed chasing her brother, dancing to the Wiggles and having tea parties. Her smiles gave those around her strength, courage and hope. Our family would like to thank the staff and students of Emerson Elementary for their love, compassion and support during this journey; our community who wrapped their arms around us. A special thank you to Dr. Janet Grabowski and the staff at Children's Hospital for the care Mack has received over the years. She is survived by her parents, Scott and Tara Gair, big brother Brycen, grandparents, Barb Mymryk, and Paul and Sheila Gair, aunts and uncles, Al (Tammy) Mymryk, Laura Mymryk (Steve) and Jason Gair, cousins, Kaitlyn and Ryden Clowes, and Mason Mymryk, godfather Corey Greenham (Lisa, Linden, Cooper), special caregiver Tammy Delorme and many, many more close family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Glen Mymryk. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., Springs Church, 595 Lagimodiere Blvd. with Pastor Jono Zantingh officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mackenzie can be made to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association at www.bdsra.org.

Condolences & Memories (16 entries)

  • I clearly remember the day of diagnosis. It was the day Tara and Scott became warriors against this horrible disease. They are the strongest and most devoted parents I have ever met. My deepest condolences to both of you and my little buddy Brycen. Your angel is now in heaven, watching over you. • Thinking of you Tara and your family during this difficult time. I just know that Mack is with my brother Kevin, and the two of them are free to dance run and play. They are in their eternal home, in heaven. I'm praying for you and thinking of you my sweet friend. Lean on God, He will carry you even when you feel like it's hard to go on. This life is a marathon, not a race, and it is but a breath. You have inspired me, your story has touched my heart and I will never forget your precious daughter for as long as I live. Mackenzie touched so many lives in 9 years than some people do in a whole entire lifetime! I had never heard of Batten's until seeing you all journey through it. You are all warriors and you have been so strong! Rest now and know that she had a very happy life being surrounded by all of the love you all so evidentially gave her. Love you all.❀️ May God bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand and in the shadow of His wings. - Posted by: Julie Plaza (Childhood friend of Tara) on: Aug 31, 2017
