MARY WATSON (nee POCALUJKO) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Watson on August 8, 2017 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 90. Mary grew up on a farm with her parents, Mary and Peter, and her siblings. The house was always full of love and activity. As a young adult, Mary came to Winnipeg and found employment at the Manitoba Club. She would often reminisce about some of the interesting patrons she met at the Club. However, being enterprising, she decided to become a hairstylist. She enjoyed her new profession, even into her 80s. She loved socializing with her clients and made many lifelong friends. Mary met her husband, Gordon, at a dance and soon they fell in love. They were happily married until Gordon's death in 2007. She missed him dearly. They enjoyed travelling, golfing, visiting with relatives and friends. Mary was predeceased by her siblings Ann, Harry, Kay, Nicholas, Bill, Steve. Doris, Peter, Nellie and Mike. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Sophie and Alice, and also numerous nieces and nephews. She will be forever remembered. Thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital for their care. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, Winnipeg, MB, with Reverend Janet Walker officiating. Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery following service and reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I met Mary when she worked at The Bay downtown as a hair stylist and soon became a regular client of hers. She was an excellent hairdresser and had many clients who followed her when she opened her own hair shop in the Boyd Building on Portage Avenue in downtown Winnipeg. As I also lived in St. James, we soon became friends and she and Gordon attended my wedding in 1978. Mary and Gordon loved to travel and often spoke about their trips to Europe and the USA. She was a great cook and often had invited guests for dinner as well as for coffee. I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to her family and say that I am glad I had the opportunity of knowing Mary as a friend and client as she was an exceptional person who lived her life to the fullest. - Posted by: Doreen Skinner (Friend and Client for many years ) on: Sep 18, 2017

  • Rest in Peace Aunt. - Posted by: Dan Szun () on: Aug 21, 2017

  • Aunt Mary was someone who I first remember meeting at the age of nine. I was always impressed by her strong work ethic and her delight in maintaining her friendships with clients over several decades. She and Uncle Gordon attended my wedding in 1981 and I remember her kindness to my brother Jerry and I when our Mother passed away in 1994. I feel she embraced her life with a positive outlook and experienced many wonderful trips with Gordon to a variety of destinations. Along with all family cousins, I wish to convey my sorrow on her passing but more importantly, to acknowledge her life well lived. - Posted by: Donna Golding (Niece, daughter of Mary's eldest sister Kay) on: Aug 20, 2017
