PETER BARCLAY CLEUGH It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Barclay Cleugh on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the age of 92. Left to cherish his memory are his six children, Barbara (Bob) Blyth of Priddis, AB, Karen Smith, Dianne Ormiston, Joan (Ken) Jarvie, David Cleugh of Edmonton, AB, and Warren Cleugh; eleven grandchildren, Colin and Maegan Blyth, Sarah, Andrea (Chad Samain), Kendra and Christine Ormiston, Ashley (Steve Robert), Valerie and Steven Jarvie, and Jaclyn and Alex Cleugh; four great-grandchildren, Connor and Kenzie Blyth, Emmett Robert and Elliot Samain; his sister Wendy Wood of Peterborough, ON, and several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Maud Cleugh, brother-in-law Glenn Wood, son-in-law Richard (Dick) Smith, and the mother of his children, Dorothy Cleugh. Dad was born on May 5, 1925 in Montreal, Quebec. He graduated from Lower Canada College and enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force in February 1943. He received his wings and became a pilot instructor. In 1949, he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University. In October 1949, he married Dorothy Clark and they began their family in 1950. The family moved between Montreal and Winnipeg, finally settling in Winnipeg in 1962. Dad worked in the steel industry his entire career; first with Dominion Bridge and then Manitoba Rolling Mills. After he retired he wintered in Sarasota, Florida. He loved the game of golf, was a long-time member of St. Charles Country Club and played on many courses across Canada and the U.S. He was a master at the game of cribbage. He enjoyed playing bridge and other card games with family and friends. He was an excellent craftsman with no project too challenging. He was the king of lists and labels. In compliance with Dad's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Many thanks to Drs. J. Saranchuk, M. Wiseman and staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the staff on 2North at Oakview Place for their care and compassion. For those who wish, please support CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice in Dad's memory.
