Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I met Charlie in 1984 in Whitehorse, Yukon. He was in a band and they played in one of the hotels that had a huge dance floor. I was in the hospitality business and my friends and I would often go dancing in one of the 3 popular places - so one time, and this is vague, Charlie and his band members came to my place for an after hours party. Somehow or other, I knew I'd be moving to Edmonton and Charlie told me to look him up which I did. We became friends - on his birthday (Robbie Burns), he'd have a party with haggis, quail, peas, mashed potatoes and ice cream. I met his sister Kaskie, his parents, his dogs...we'd go into the river valley sometimes for long walks and even a campfire. Charlie eventually moved to Winnipeg, I to Edson, and we lost touch for a bit. However, he found my info and we resumed our connection. We'd always meet at Christmas if we were both in Whitehorse at Christmas...I saw him in December 2016. Charlie loved the many lakes in Manitoba and told me about many of his adventures while canoeing. He was funny and often would come up with strange analogies about various situations but in the long run, they'd make sense. Charlie was a good, honest man and it's now hard to believe that he is gone. - Posted by: Barbara Mazur (friend) on: Sep 22, 2017

  • Although I hadn't been in touch with Charlie for many years, I have quite a few good memories. I remember his love of music, whether he was listening to it or playing his Gibson guitar. I am sure Charlie will be missed by many people who he touched over the years, with his superb guitar playing talent. I also remember how he drove his parents crazy as a teenager, and well into his 20s. He did this by cranking up his stereo or his guitar amp downstairs in his living area, at any time of the day. Charlie also had a love of the outdoors, and a general zest for life, which unfortunately I wasn't around to enjoy with him. My condolences to his sister, and his many acqaintances. Rest in peace Charlie. - Posted by: Rick Masterman (I used to be a close friend) on: Aug 31, 2017
