JOHN RICHARD POTTER It is with sadness we announce that John Richard Potter, 63, of Stony Plain, AB, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2017, at the Stony Plain General Hospital. John was predeceased by his mother Marjorie Potter and father Cyril Potter. John is survived by his wife Marilyn, of 37 years, his children, Steven and his wife Melanie and Mathew and his fiancée Nicole, his grandchildren Joshua, Jasmine, Janelle and Janaiya, nieces Christina Walters and Melissa Farnham, nephew David Thimer, and extended family. John was a loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. John graduated with a Biotechnology Diploma from Red River College in 1977 and went on to work in the lab at the Health Sciences Centre. He had a passion for small business and at 25 he started into private industry opening Prairie West Industries, and in later years a motorsport business where he enjoyed working on many cars and trucks, and converting motorcycles into trikes, one of his favourite hobbies. If you asked John to describe his dream job he would describe being a Park Ranger in the mountains. From 2008 to 2012 he followed that thought, running the Gold Panner Campground in Cherryville, BC where he and Marilyn had planned to retire. Over the years, life's ups and downs and his business ventures, John was consistently known for his soft heart for people and was always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Stony Plain General Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital for their loving care and support in John's last days. A memorial service for John will be held at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. on Friday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alberta Cross Cancer Institute at http://albertacancer.ca/donate
