Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOSCAR (JOHN) ISLIEFSON January 16, 1928 - August 26, 2017 Peacefully, at the Charleswood Care Centre, John passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at the age of 89 years. Remaining to cherish John's memory are his loving wife Pat; his son Allan (Carolyn); son-in-law Tim Douglas; grandchildren Kristin (Patrick) Desrochers, Jo-Anne (Darren) Mazinke and Molly Douglas (Karl) Lazar; great-grandsons William, Robert and Cameron Desrochers; great-granddaughters Madison Mazinke and Emma Douglas; brother Allan (Laura) Isleifson; sister-in-law Deana Isliefson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Thorstein and Osk; sisters Emily, Lorraine, Anne and Julie; brothers Barney, Cecil and Murray; nephews James, Lyndon, Bjorn, and his daughter, Judy Anne Douglas. John was born and raised in Glenboro, Manitoba where his family farmed. As a boy, he enjoyed trapping, hunting and building things with his brothers - including a snow machine. As a young man, John moved to Winnipeg where he found the love of his life, Patricia. He and Pat married and had two children, Judy and Allan. With their family complete, John got his Class 1 license and drove long-haul truck and later drove bus with Greyhound until he retired at the age of 60. John was very handy and built many things including a miniature steam engine that actually worked, numerous Purple Martin houses and the family cottage at Netley Creek. We all had many years of fun and wonderful memories there. John's other interests included flying and hunting. In his early 40s, having obtained his Pilot's license, John promptly purchased a Piper Cub and then his pride and joy, a Cessna 150 which he kept at Selkirk Air and flew over the cottage. He used to wave the plane at whomever was out on the dock waving back at him. John also loved duck and deer hunting, shooting his last deer at the age of 82. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date. Wojcik's Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
