JOAN VALERIE KUZYK (nee CAUGHEY) Peacefully, on Monday, August 28, 2017, Joan passed away at Riverview Health Centre, with her family at her side, at the age of 72 years. Remaining to cherish Joan's memory are her sister Betty; brother Lynn (Elaine); nephews Glen (Shannon) and Brian; niece Heather (Tommy), and the love of her life, husband Jerry. She was predeceased by her mother Catherine; father Victor, and brother Allan. On May 22, 1945, Joan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was raised in the St. Vital community and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Joan was a very spiritual person and had a very strict conscience. She firmly believed in the coming Resurrection. Her favourite scriptures are, JOB 14:15: "You will call and I myself shall answer you" and REV 21:4: "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. The former things have passed away". Joan's faith and ministry were her main focus. Joan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1984. This left her with only the use of her right hand. She could not bear weight. Then in 2012, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. Joan courageously battled both M.S. and cancer. Her husband Jerry cared for her 24/7. Whenever her friends asked 'how are you Joan?', her reply was always "I'm okay". She was very positive, never a negative word. Joan was employed in the medical field. She successfully accomplished most medical terminology and was swift in giving the right answer. She excelled in doing crafts, making jewelry boxes, stuffed bears, padded picture frames, Oriental dolls and sewing most of her clothes. She loved music, particularly the Stardust album by Willie Nelson. Her most memorable vacation was going to the West Indies to the Island of Curacao. Joan's husband Jerry would like to thank all of the home care aides and Riverview nurses and doctors in the Palliative Care Centre. As well, her family doctor, Dr. Lockman and the doctors and health care aides at the Rehab Health Sciences Centre. On Saturday, September 9, 2017, Joan's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 227 Lakewood Boulevard, Winnipeg. Wojcik's Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com "Joan will be missed by all her friends, particularly her husband Jerry of 52 years."

We spent many hours together in our elementary and high school days at Norberry and Glenlawn. Joan was a devoted friend with whom I have many happy memories. God has blessed all who knew her for putting her on our path of life however short or long. Marlene Waiwood Montreal - Posted by: Marlene Boctor (Waiwood) (childhood friend) on: Sep 18, 2017

I am so sorry to read of Joan's passing. Our deepest sympathy to you Jerry in your loss. I will treasure the conversations I had with Joan and yourself as we worked to get Joan more mobile. She was a very strong lady and always so very positive. The 2 of you interacting together made me smile as I could see the love you possessed for each other. Jerry, you were her rock. We'll see you in the mall I am sure. Again, our deepest sympathies. Joan will be missed by many. - Posted by: Gord Savage (Friend) on: Sep 07, 2017
