LIS RUTH GRIMSTRUP November 7, 1931 - September 3, 2017 Loving mother who put her family first, Lis Ruth Grimstrup passed away on September 3, 2017, after a battle with cancer. Lis was welcoming to friends and strangers alike and was steadfastly loyal to her many friends and family. She will be greatly missed by us all. Born in Denmark on November 7, 1931, Lis worked as a nanny and housekeeper for several years after completing her schooling. During that time she met her husband Iver, whom she married in 1952. She and Iver immigrated to Canada in 1957 with three sons, settling on a farm near Morris, Manitoba. After moving to Winnipeg in 1962, she worked at Quinton's Cleaners and the University of Manitoba, retiring in 1987 after many years of service. Lis was very active in the community, acting as a Boy Scout leader and trustee of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3870 Ladies Auxillary. After retirement, Lis spent many happy winters in Texas as well as travelling to Hawaii, Jamaica and Denmark. She continued to be very active, participating in the Canada Senior Games in Whitehorse as a member of Team Manitoba. Her interests included horseshoe pitching, darts, golf and needle-crafts. Among her greatest loves were to play with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as tending her garden Lis was predeceased by her son Henning, brother Leo and parents, Martha and Rasmus. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Iver; children, Peder (Judy), Jorgen (Cheryl), Mary (Gord), Arne (Kristin) and Carsten (Jacquie), seven grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren and large extended family in Denmark. A celebration of Lis' life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, 3459 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We are so sorry for your loss! Lis was my mum's best friend and mum was very sad to hear of her passing. She wanted me to let you know she is thinking of you all now and sending her prayers. Due to health reasons of her own she was not able to get to Winnipeg to visit with Lis the last couple of years but they chatted often on the phone. When my mum moved to Nova Scotia Lis was like a second mother to me. We visited often and had many chats. Lis and Iver taught me how to play Dominos. I will cherish those memories always. She always spoke very fondly of her children and grand children. She was very proud of you all! - Posted by: Melinda Sasek (Friend) on: Sep 13, 2017
