LILLIAN GLADYS WONNACOTT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian Wonnacott on the morning of August 31, 2017 at her home in Winnipeg. Lillian was predeceased by her father Frederick; mother Irene; brother Bill and brother-in-law Wayne Hogue. She is survived by her sister Delia Hogue; nephews, Kenneth and Keith; niece Kimberly and grandniece Megan; her brother Victor; sister-in-law Enid Lyons; niece Sara and brother John and his spouse Michelle Boucher. She was a guiding light who could be relied upon to share her happiness and hope and who was ever tolerant and loving. Lillian graduated from Isaac Newton High School in 1956 and went on to attend Central Normal School in Winnipeg, graduating in 1958. Thereafter she taught at Dr. D. W. Penner School and St. George School in Winnipeg. She retired in 1995 after teaching for 37 years. She was devoted to giving her students the best possible start in school and in life. Lillian was an avid individualist and seeker of knowledge. She travelled the globe, most often in the company of one or another of her great many friends but on occasion setting off alone, happy in her own company and eager to see what she might discover. She pursued continuing education at the University of Winnipeg after retirement and had an abiding interest in history and the arts. In her early years she gripped precariously on rock faces to obtain rubbings of petroglyphs, but sensibly in later years, she cultivated a studious interest in, particularly, tracing her genealogical roots in Winnipeg, a place she was very proud to call home. Above all else, Lillian was a great soul. For even as much as she may be remembered for her individualism, she was earnestly committed to a sense of community and duty firmly rooted in an abiding faith in God. From the late 1960s, she was parishioner at All Saints Anglican Church in Winnipeg, where she served in various capacities in the Alter Guild, participated in Bible study and lent a helping hand whenever she could. Lillian was blessed in her life. She deeply loved her family and friends and was much loved in return. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Lillian may be made to All Saints' Church, 175 Colony St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1W2. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m, September 14, 2017 at All Saints' Anglican Church, 175 Colony Street. Bardal Funeral Home 843 Sherbrook Street, 204-774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca

  • What a wonderful person! Lillian was my daughter's teacher for a year and I had the pleasure of being a weekly classroom volunteer. I was so impressed with her interest in both the children and the teaching that I continued to volunteer in her classroom for a number of years. Both my daughter and I were fortunate to have known her. She will be fondly remembered. - Posted by: Madeline Nield (Student parent, friend) on: Sep 10, 2017

  • My Aunt Rose Polka phoned and informed me of Lillian's passing. Rose, Lillian, another lady friend and myself, when we would go on trips Lillian was always my roommate. Even when she lived in her apartment, when I came over she would join Rose and myself for tea and catch up on conversations. She was a wonderful person and I am glad to have known her. Somewhere in the empty space that's left there are memories and love waiting to make it okay again. Wishing your families comfort and peace.
