EVA LORRAINE TAYLOR (nee ROBINSON) 1935 - 2017 It is with profound sadness that our family announce the death of my beloved wife, Lorraine, on September 5, 2017, after a two year bout with ALS and a recent heart attack from which she did not recover. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Bob, of 61 years, son, Scott (Sharon), Aric and Kaylyn (Julian), twin brother, Lloyd (Muriel), son, Darryl (Cathy) and family, daughter, Denyse and family, and brother Jack (Wilma) and family. She was predeceased by her parents, and daughter, Lori Leanne. Lorraine was the second child born to John and Nellie Robinson, Oakland, Manitoba. She attended Rob Roy School and Portage Collegiate. After grade 12 she taught at Portage Creek School, a one room Grade 1 to 9, on a Manitoba Teachers Permit. She next attended Teachers College and the University of Manitoba. Over the next 34 years she taught school in North Kildonan, Winnipeg and lastly, 20 years at General Byng in Fort Garry. She enjoyed the primary grades and was renowned for her reading ability. The children wept when she read "CHARLOTTES WEB" but were hysterical when she read, "THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A FLY". Lorraine put her heart and soul into teaching. When phonics were discontinued she taught them behind closed doors until her retirement. Lorraine did beautiful cross-stitch work, ceramics, oil painting, and especially knitting Afghan blankets for family and many neighbourhood children. Lorraine and Bob were associated with Donnelly and Fort Garry Churches for many years. Lorraine tamed a farm boy and backed him in all his endeavours. She enjoyed going to Winnipeg Police pistol tournaments. She was an excellent shooter and often won prizes in the Women's events. She enjoyed many overseas trips, 30 wonderful years at their summer home at Traverse Bay and 21 winters in Yuma, Arizona. The low spot in her life was the death of our beloved daughter, Lori Leanne, at age 18 from an acute brain aneurysm. Lorraine and Bob moved to West Kelowna, BC in 2015 to be near son, Scott, Sharon and family. Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral but a memorial service will be held in Portage la Prairie at a later date. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Canada, and Heart and Stroke Foundation, or charities of choice. A special thanks to Dr. Mackle, Dr. McCauly, Dr. Wile and Dr. Wannenberg, the ALS Society for their steadfast support, the BC Interior Health, staff and members of the Westside Retirement Resort. Funeral arrangements by Ever Rust Funeral Services, Kelowna and Ron Moffit Memorial Services, Portage la Prairie.

  • My heartfelt condolences to the Taylor family on the loss of your loved one. I have thought of all of you often since your daughter, my friend Lori passed away suddenly. She had many friends who were devastated by the loss and still I/we think of her often. Mrs. Taylor I remember was a good teacher and both my brother and I were in her Grade 1 class many years back. She taught me to not worry so much and had me read "The Little Train that Could" over and over again. I still worry about things as an adult, but will always remember Mrs. Taylor letting me know it was alright to make mistakes - I became a very good reader since then! I have seen Mrs. Taylor a few times over the years, but had seen her for a quick hello about 6 years ago when she had been visiting a friend at a nursing home where my dad had been placed after my mom died. I wish we could have chatted longer, but my memories will stay in my heart forever. Rest in Peace Mrs. Taylor - you will be with your precious daughter Lori now. God bless. - Posted by: Leslie Eskra (student in Grade 1 at General Byng School) on: Sep 20, 2017

  • I am so very sorry Bob to hear of Lorraines passing. She was a great lady who ill be missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Ina Adams(Nichols)(Taylor) (ex sister in law) on: Sep 09, 2017

  • It is too Lorraine's phonics teaching, as well as her perseverance that I am able to read and write today. She was a very patient and caring teacher, and was able to bring out the best in her students under the trying conditions of a one room country school. We have all come a long way since Oakland and Portage Creek. Rest in Peace Miss Robinson - Posted by: Brian McCowan (friend and former student) on: Sep 09, 2017
