On the very first morning of moving to the Interlake as a teenager, disoriented, confused, a little scared, Emily came to stay with me to keep me company as arrangements were made to get me registered in school. Having met Emily only briefly once before at the time of my Amma passing, this was my first full experience of EMILY. I was immediately enveloped in one of the biggest, warmest, most heartfelt hugs of my life, greeted and made known that we were FAMILY, and proceeded to share with me amazing stories about my Amma and our family's journey from Iceland to the Interlake. Emily kept me company during those first days and transformed me from a little lost soul, to a proud, but still shy, member of the incredible family we have that I never really got to learn much about growing up. Every occasion since then, Emily always greeted me the same way, as I suspect she did for all in her life. You immediately felt like the most important person in the world to her, you knew you were loved, and welcome. One of my very favourite pictures I have is of Emily holding our first born daughter Gillian. Just a few months old, Emily gathered her up in her arms and gave her the family welcome. The smile on Emily's face, the peace on my daughter's, it helps remind me of exactly what family is all about. Bless you Emily. You always have been and always will continue to be a gift to everyone who knows you. - Posted by: Brock Gunter-Smith (Great Nephew (Grandson of Jona)) on: Sep 11, 2017

To the Gudbjartson family -- thinking of you during this difficult time. Your Mom was a very special lady and one of my many memories was her open door and big welcoming to the neighbourhood kids. I know you will miss her lots but you will always have the wonderful memories. Hugs, Colleen - Posted by: Colleen Olafson (Friend) on: Sep 11, 2017
