PETER BUDOLOWSKI January 29, 1922 - September 9, 2017 It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Budolowski announces his passing at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 9, 2017 at the age of 95 years. He is sadly missed by his children, Dianne (John), Marianne (Bob), Linda (Howard); grandchildren, Selene, Keith, Neil (Marcie), Carla (Kurt), Todd (Megan), Andrew (Emma), Philip (Thea), Lindsay; and great- grandchildren, Logan, Evan and Calum. Peter is also survived by his sister Jean and brother-in-law Cliff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was born on January 29, 1922 in Ethelbert, and grew up on the farm homesteaded by his grandparents and parents. In 1950, he married Nellie Hrechka and together they tended the family farm and raised three daughters; Dianne, Marianne and Linda. Peter's ties to the land were very strong, both in terms of farming the land and as a connection to his family's Ukrainian homesteading heritage. He was proud to see the family farm designated as a Century Farm in 1999. Peter gave back to the community of Ethelbert through his involvement in municipal and school politics, and served as Councillor and Reeve for the Rural Municipality of Ethelbert. He pursued further education, taking correspondence courses to achieve his designation for his career as a municipal and school secretary-treasurer. In 1967, he was appointed secretary-treasurer of the Rural Municipality of Mossey River, and in 1972 became the secretary-treasurer of the Rural Municipality of Ethelbert. In 1973, Peter and his family moved to Virden, where he accepted a position as secretary-treasurer of the Fort La Bosse School Division. He continued to work for Fort La Bosse School Division until his retirement in 1986. Following Peter's retirement, Peter and Nellie became avid winter "snowbirds" and active members of the Good Sam travel club. Peter and Nellie enjoyed travel, with trips to many destinations including the Caribbean, Australia and Europe. The highlight of their travels was a trip to Ukraine in 1982, which included visiting the villages of Howilow and Peremilow, which their ancestors had emigrated from many years before. It was a moving experience to walk down the streets where their ancestors had lived and to visit the church in which they had worshipped. Peter took great pride in his family's homesteading roots, and the family farm. His love of the land continued throughout his lifetime, as evidenced by his exceptional garden in Virden. Honouring family connections and traditions, as well as his family roots and Ukrainian heritage, were cornerstones of Peter's life. Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Virden at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017. Interment will follow at the Virden Cemetery. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)
I had the pleasure and honour of meeting Gido on many occasions while visiting Winnipeg. He was a genuine, loving, soft spoken, kind gentleman. His love for his family was so obvious. I will always remember seeing tears fall down his cheeks on Carla's wedding day. They were tears of pride and joy. His family meant so much to him. Rest in peace Gido - Posted by: Wanda Doyle (Mother in law of granddaughter Carla ) on: Sep 14, 2017
