NEIL DOHIE With deep sorrow the family announces the passing of Neil Dohie, on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 76. He leaves to mourn his daughter Karen (Doug) Fisher; son Trevor (Sheilagh) Dohie; his brothers George, John (Lynn), Glen (Crystal) and Nick; sisters Doris Burla, Lee (Gale) Walker, Vera Davison, Jean (Willy) Ziprick, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his wife Deanna (nee Wright) in 2015, brother Patrick Dohie, and parents Elsie (Cohan) Dohie and Eli Dohie. Born in Shell Valley, Manitoba, on October 5, 1940, he eventually moved to Winnipeg to work. It was at the Canadian Wheat Board where he met his "soon to be" wife Deanna. Neil and Deanna married on October 30, 1965 and after a short time, made their permanent residence in St. Vital on Avalon Road. Dad's work years were spent with Silverwood Dairy, McGavin's Bread and he retired after a few years with Walmart. Some of Dad's favourite memories were of the travelling he did with Karen, Trevor and Deanna, as well as the later vacations he took with Deanna and often the family pets. Neil looked forward to visiting Shell Valley to see old friends and he tried to ensure an annual visit was always made. Neil was also a car enthusiast, he enjoyed a great road trip, seeing much of the United States by car. Gardening with Deanna and cooking ethnic Romanian dishes, were pastimes as well. Dad truly loved country music, and he attended many country music concerts over the years. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. (viewing at 9:30 a.m.) at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street with Rev. F. Michael Ungrin officiating. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery, 5014 Dugald Road. Reception to follow interment at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Kidney Foundation - Manitoba Branch. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Condolence From: Glen & Crystal Dohie Condolence: So very sad to hear the news of Neil's passing. Our hearts go out to Karen and Trevor sending you love and prayers from Kona. As a teenager my fond memories of my brother were helping him deliver both bread and milk, these were fun times. Neil's customers really liked him and he enjoyed serving them. We both have a love for Classic Country Music. It was always a joy for me to hear about Neil's many concert stories. Ironically Neil passed away the day after Country Music legend Don Williams passed away and on the eve of Johnny Cash's death 14 years ago. I like to think that my brother has a front row seat watching these legends in Heaven now. Love and Prayers from Hawaii - Glen & Crystal Dohie - Posted by: Glen Dohie (Brother ) on: Sep 18, 2017

  • My thoughts go out to your family for the loss of your father. I worked with Neil for years until his retirement, then realized he was Karen and Trevor's father. I used to go to school with Karen. Neil was a very kind and funny and great friend to have a conversation with that usually ended with a smile. 🙂 Will miss that. 😞 - Posted by: Monique vermette (Co-worker) on: Sep 15, 2017
