Date of Passing: Sep 13, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD WILLIAM FEWCHUK It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald William Fewchuk announces his passing on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Ron was born on October 28, 1941 in Selkirk, Manitoba to parents William and Mildred (Clarke) Fewchuk. He was raised in Lockport where he spent many years working at Lockport Appliance before venturing out as an entrepreneur, co-owning and operating The Bait House Minnows, Interlake Ice, and Macs Convenience Store. Ron also had a passion for politics, first serving as councillor in St. Clements and then as Reeve from 1986-89. He was elected Member of Parliament (Liberal) for Selkirk Red River in 1993, and greatly enjoyed his four years as an MP. Following his term in parliament, Ron was appointed CEO of Manitoba Fisheries. Although failing health eventually forced him to retire, Ron continued to pursue his passion for politics and was elected as the chairperson for the Selkirk Red River Metis Local. Ron met his beloved Junie at Skinners Dance Hall in Lockport. He loved the music of the fiddle and was rarely seen without his feet stomping to the Red River Jig. He could also be spotted often wearing his Captain's hat while sailing his pride and joy, The Lilly-Ann. Ron loved to be with his extended family for dinners and celebrations. He will always be remembered as a generous soul who loved life and lived it spontaneously. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, June (née Parks); his children, Rodney (Nan) and Kathy (Bruce); grandchildren, Lee (Angie) and Matthew (Brittany); five great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat (Joe) and Shirley (the late Lorne), and many dear friends and relatives. He will be forever loved and greatly missed. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at St. Andrews Anglican Church on the Red on September 18 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing half hour prior. Interment to follow in the churchyard cemetery with lunch to follow at Gilbart's Funeral Home Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Captain Ron Was a great companion while we both recovered from strokes. I never did get my pickerel lunch after we both graduated. We compared experiences in the NWT Great Slave Lake Region. Also had great Bocce Ball games on Wednesday Nights with group and Cindy. He was at the prime of his life at 75. If I am lucky I will be 83 on April 12, 2018. It took me almost two years of perseverance to get my drivers license suspension lifted on December 20, 2017. One the first trips this summer would have been to Lockport to catch up. Rest in Peace Captain until we meet again. Peter Gall Room 431 East. - Posted by: Peter J Gall (Patient at Riverview Rehab Hospital May 13 to July 13, 2016) on: Jan 14, 2018
