ANDRE DOUMBE A Baobab has fallen! It is with infinite sadness that "Sous le Baobab" and the African Communities of Manitoba Inc. (Acomi) announce the death on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 of Mr. André Doumbè, President of Acomi, Pillar of the Association Sous le Baobab and a great builder of the African Community in Manitoba. André was born on September 24, 1949 and he is survived by his mother, a wife, two daughters, and many extended family relatives in Canada, Europe and in Cameroon. His death occurred as a result of a long battle with cancer and he passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. We wish to extend our sincere thanks to all the health professionals and personnel that made the last few years more bearable for him. Uncle André, as he was affectionately called, dedicated all of his life to the people of his Cameroonian community including the African community at large. He was known for his qualities of unity, integrity, listening and respect. A life well lived, a man well loved! • Our friend Andre was a warm and compassionate leader who touched the lives of so many, particularly those in his beloved African community. He had a tremendous ability to bring people together from many cultures, as he did throughout his presidency of the African Communities of Manitoba. He was a role model and mentor for so many us, and we will miss him dearly. Andre was about to receive a Canada 150 Community Leadership Award for his many decades of distinguished volunteer service, but unfortunately passed away before we could make the presentation. I will have the honour of presenting his daughter with this award at his Celebration of Life on Saturday. - Posted by: MP Terry Duguid (Friend) on: Sep 20, 2017

  • The first time I met Andre when I was applying for a volunteer position at ACOMI RESOURCE CENTER in 2011. Since I was one of people involved in ACOMI and live to closer (100m) I met Andre very often, different time. I will remember Andre as a man of dignity and Integrity, man of strong decision, community builder, educator and just a friend. My condolences to Andre's Family and relative and I believe, together we will continue his job, to make ACOMI a strong and long lasting Community. - Posted by: Philibert Ntuyemukaga (ACOMI volunteer and just human been who knew ANDRE ) on: Sep 18, 2017

- Posted by: Blandine Tona (Friend) on: Sep 18, 2017

  • On behalf of my family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Doumbe family. We pray that God give you the fortitude to bear the loss. Andre was one of the few people I met when I came to Winnipeg in 1997. He was a very good community organizer; he played a prominent role in uniting the community. He will be missed dearly. Andre, rest in the Lord's bosom. Good night. Kunle Ajisebutu - Posted by: Adekunle Ajisebutu (Community member) on: Sep 16, 2017
