GWEN WATSON Peacefully, with friends and family by her side, Gwendolyn Christine Watson (Haines) left us for a new adventure on September 16, 2017. Gwen was predeceased by her mother, Rose and father, Len, as well as many aunts and uncles. Gwen is survived by her sister Barbara; niece Dainna (Chris); brother Jim (Inez); Aunty Del, Uncle Jack; many cousins, nieces and nephews; dear friends Barb, Debbie, Charlie, and Jaci (to name a few); and her loves, husband Barry and daughters Alissa and Jessica (Kip). Education, especially the practice of lifelong learning, was a pillar of Gwen's beliefs. Gwen started teaching in The Pas and then returned to Winnipeg to teach at River Heights, Daniel McIntyre, and St. John's High. After a short hiatus in Edmonton, she returned to Winnipeg at King Edward Elementary before rounding out her career as the Secondary Language Arts Consultant for Winnipeg School Division. Gwen was extremely proud of her daughters; she could be seen cheering for Jessica at the rink or sharing her laugh in the theatre with Alissa. She loved reading, particularly cozied at the lake with Barry and adored their place in Arizona. Those lucky enough to know Gwen, knew how amazing she was; intelligent, compassionate and fierce, she was the heart and leader of our family. Gwen has always been, and will continue to be, one of the strongest influences in everything her girls do. Cremation has taken place and the family has said 'Bon Voyage'. A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, September 30, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Avenue. A special thank you to all the staff at the Health Sciences' Emergency and GD Ward for the sensitivity and care they provided Gwen and family in the last hours of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gwen's memory to the 'Gwen Watson Memorial Fund' at The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 - One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3.
