KYM CAMARTA
Born: Jul 03, 1948
Date of Passing: Sep 20, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKYM CAMARTA July 3, 1948 - September 20, 2017 "Ladies and Gentleman yourrr Winnipeg Jets!!!!" It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Kym Camarta on September 20 at Victoria Hospital. You may not know Kym from his name or picture, but rather from his booming voice and huge personality as the old Winnipeg Jets PA announcer from 1989 until their departure in 1996. Kym, or as we all know him, Nonno, had a love of all sports but mostly hockey and golf, which he watched while yelling regularly at the TV. A proud grandparent who took any opportunity to boast of his grandkids, teaching and passing on his massive collection of Dad jokes he had amassed over the last four decades. Nonno will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: Jaime, Jocelyn (André Richard), Jillian (Duncan Bothwell) and his grandkids Xavier, Rielle and Dréa. Remembered as well by his ex-wife Valery; his siblings Brian, Larry (Monica), Ron (Johanna), Janine (Wayne Wetterberg), Chris (Lisa) and Bobby (Pat), all his nieces / nephews and their children and families. Much love and thanks to the Victoria Hospital ICU staff for their devotion and care for our loved father. A shout out also to our friends and family for all their love and support. In lieu of flowers, please hold on to your favourite memory, story or joke by Mr. C, or by taking the time to yell at the TV when your local teams take a "bonehead penalty".

I worked with Kim at YXD in the Eighties, both of us being CSM’s along with Jim Wyse ( deceased ) Doug MacPherson and Larry Filipeck. It was a pleasure because he had a knack for keeping us on the light Side of thinks, even on those days when the operation was tanking do Weather, Maintenace or other issues. I can honestly say I do not ever recall seeing him with a frown on his face, only smiles or jovial grins. I even had the pleasure of golfing with him on a number of occasions and had to admit for a man his size, he had a very soft touch around the greens. I know though Inhadn’t seen him in years I still considered him a close friend, I enjoyed being around. My sincere condolences to Kim’s entire family. - Posted by: Bryan Benay (Friend) on: Jan 28, 2018

My condolences to the Camarta Family.. I worked with Kym at Elkhorn Resort for a few years, and what a guy he was, always had a smile and a joke to tell, he always said to me "Karen one day you and I will get to Hawaii together, I said no problem as long as I get my own room, he said in that voice, PARDON, well I guess we'll never go" :) RIP my dear friend! - Posted by: Karen Morissette (Friend) on: Oct 16, 2017

What numbing news. During our last phone conversation about 2 months ago, Kym advised that his health was good and 'on the right track'. Too many stories to tell, however, always 'entertaining' when Kym held court to discuss his views on politics or, especially, sports! Wherever a beautiful soul has been, There is a trail of beautiful memories. Sincere condolences and love to 'his girls'. I just found out today of Kym's passing through some old friends from PWA. Even though it has been many years since I last worked or spoke with Kym, the memories seem much more recent and vivid. Kym & I worked together in Cranbrook for PWA, and I know I can speak for everyone who knew him at the time, he was a joy to work with. Kym was a master at handling difficult situations when required, but when time allowed, he kept us in stitches with his quick wit, funny expressions and even acting out some of his jokes. Of course as a group, we often socialized together at different functions after work and it would be no surprise to anyone that Kym was the 'centre of attention', in the nicest possible way. He delighted in telling stories of when he dated Val, which I'm sure Val had heard a thousand times, but she never complained. On a more personal note, I occasionally spent time alone at the Camarta's and even though his two young daughters at the time will not remember me, Jaime was always 'my date'. She would come and sit beside me on the sofa, if we were visiting in the living room and I thought, what does she see in this 'old man'! I was 24 or 25 at the time. Another connection to Kym is that I found out he was friends with my cousins in Edmonton, the Cott family. I would like to express my deepest condolences to all of Kym's family, past and present. I have so many fond memories of Kym, Val and the kids, I'll never forget the time I knew them and I want to thank somebody for putting Kym on this planet. My god, we could use more of people like him. - Posted by: Dan Spragins (Friend and coworker from our Cranbrook days.) on: Sep 30, 2017

To the Camarta family: I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Kym. He was a great guy who always made me smile and laugh with his quick wit and jokes. He was a great uncle to my kids and most fondly remember him as Santa at the family Christmas parties. I know he will be greatly missed by Zachary, Natalie, Alyssa and Kevin and everyone else who knew him. Please know that I am thinking of you and the rest of your family at this difficult time. I'm really sorry to hear of my cousin Kym's passing. He was famous in Edmonton as a junior hockey player. I know -- because as soon as people saw my last name they assumed that I was a great hockey player too. Just like Kym. Kym was also famous in the airline industry. I recall being asked many times during check-in: "Oh -- you must know Kym". And, then they would tell me a story of how much they loved working with Kym. Condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Neil Camarta (Cousin) on: Sep 26, 2017

When you saw Kym on the phone handset immediately after a goal was scored at a Winnipeg Jets hockey game, he would have been talking to me (Official Scorer) positioned up in the press box and I would relay the information so he could announce in his booming voice the goal scorer and assists. We had a lot of fun in those days and he had such a great sense of humor. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Kym. My sincere condolences to all of his extended family. Rest in peace buddy, you will be missed... - Posted by: Ken Burnett (Friend and co-worker Winnipeg Jets) on: Sep 26, 2017

I was truly sad to hear that my cousin, Kym, had passed away. I didn't get to see my Uncle Vic's family often, but I remember that Kym was a kind, funny and loud family leader. As a kid, I was quite impressed that Kym worked for an airline. I was so inspired that I wanted to become a 'stewardess' so I could fly around the world for free. Of course, being a typical Camarta, I was too short! I still think about Kym every time I board a flight. I hope that Kym is reunited on the other side with his parents and all those family and friends who have gone before him, including the two Nello's: my beloved dad and my beloved son. I like to think they are all sharing a good laugh - enjoying health, fun and time with no limits. Rest in Paradise, Kym. Deepest condolences to the families. - Posted by: Tania Delling (nee Camarta) (Cousin) on: Sep 26, 2017

Condolences to family and friends. Kym was truly larger than life, remembered and respected by so many. Though words seem so inadequate, I hope this heartfelt message can bring some comfort today and in the days to come. - Posted by: Robert(Bob) George (Workmate and old friend) on: Sep 25, 2017

I am sorry for Kym's passing. Your dear father, grandfather and sibling, and all that were close and knew Kym. Some of us at ol' CANADIAN AIRLINES knew Kym. I was young and noticed when Kym entered our sales room. He just added "that family kind of spirit" that makes a day positive and I believe our employee spirit benefited from that. Truly one the nicest men. I did not know him well back then, but I am older now and trust my instinct that he was sincerely a fun person and I am glad to say I will remember him from my proud days with the airline. God bless all your hearts to live on in his spirit. Yours in friendship, Jill Palmer nee McWhinney. T'was a good time of life.
