Born: Sep 25, 1945
Date of Passing: Aug 31, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONIA HAMEL (nee WERESTIUK) On August 31, 2017 our sister Donia Hamel passed away, at home, at the age 71. Donia was a kind and gentle spirit who enjoyed keeping life simple. Her love of gardening, canning, cooking and pop culture was evident to all who had the opportunity to know her. Donia loved to discuss her favourite TV shows and enjoyed following her family and friends on Facebook. She was blessed with a special gift for remembering important dates. Never did a birthday, anniversary or any other special occasion pass by without a phone call. She never missed an opportunity to recognize those she cared about, either by phone, a letter or email. It was always interesting to hear the news of her garden bounty or the furry animals that visited her yard. Donia was born September 25, 1945. She was predeceased by her husband Bruno Hamel, and her parents Matt and Mary Werestiuk. She is survived by her brother Rod Werestiuk (Sandee), brother Patrick Werestiuk (Kim), sister Bernice Grawberger (Harold); stepchildren Bruno Hamel Jr., Peter Hamel (Elaine) and Elke Bulling (Peter), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. After the death of her husband Bruno, Donia struggled with enjoying life the way she used to, and was never the same bubbly person she once was. Our family is extremely grateful to Arlene and Bert, her neighbours in Menzie, who kept a close watch on Donia and helped with her essential needs. We'd also like to thank the other neighbours in the small community of Menzie for all their help. Donia spoke very highly of her neighbours, and we are forever grateful to each and every one that was there for her when her family wasn't. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private service for family and friends. Rest in peace sweet Donia, you will be sadly missed. We will see you on the other side of the stars.
