I was so sad to hear of Jim's passing. I met Jim through teaching with Sharon, and got to know him better through Sharon's last illness. He was a great husband, and a great friend to me and many, many others. He was always supportive of theatre in Winnipeg, and of my personal theatrical projects. I will miss him. - Posted by: Talia Pura (friend) on: Oct 16, 2017

Its been way too many years since I last saw Jim. Many long nights putting the Manitoban to bed, as Jim taught us to drink cold black coffee. Its amazing any of us had time for studies with the demands of the paper. Jim's generosity was instilled into him by his amazing mother, who for awhile, was as close to being my second mom as possible. Sorry that I wasn't able to reconnect prior to Jim's passing. Condolences to his family. - Posted by: William Cordingley (university friendship) on: Oct 15, 2017

Jim became my friend through Sharon at the University Women’s Club, and later through Friends of Ralph Connor House and our common interest in music and theatre. Our time spent together intensified at tax time as he helped me with my returns. He was caring and thoughtful friend and I shall miss him. - Posted by: Muriel Smith (Friend ) on: Oct 10, 2017

Jim helped me with promotion of a play that I wrote and brought to the Winnipeg Fringe Festival in July 2016. He was a lovely, generous, intelligent man whose passion for the arts was second to none. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. Our last conversation was just a few weeks prior to his death, and he was still loudly beating a drum in support of theatre arts in Winnipeg. RIP, Jim. I offer my sincerest condolences to Jim's family and his many, many friends. - Posted by: Maureen Ulrich (Friend) on: Oct 10, 2017

Jim and I have been friends for many years, at first through Sharon and the University Women's Club and Friends of Ralph Connor House, but principally at tax time when he regularly sorted through my affairs. Around the edges were many conversations about life, the world and other places. His interests in theatre and the symphony were also shared. I shall miss him. - Posted by: Muriel Smith (Friend) on: Oct 10, 2017

I am saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with both Jim and Sharon during my time at the Fringe Festival. I fondly recall many discussions with Jim in the past 15 years on the topic of ‘Business of the Arts’. Their support will be missed. On behalf of the Gas Station Arts Centre our heartfelt condolences to Jim’s family and friends on his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Nick Kowalchuk (Wpg Fringe & Gas Station Arts Centre Supporter) on: Oct 06, 2017

Theatre in our city has lost an ardent and steadfast supporter. My sincerest condoleances to both Jim and Sharon's families at this time of great sorrow and sadness. I'm so sad to hear about Jim's passing. I had the great privilege of meeting Jim through Shakespeare in the Ruins, but got to know him personally in the last three years. Jim and I attended almost every RMTC opening together, went on coffee "dates" often and talked on the phone every week. His generosity, involvement, care and steadfast dedication to the Winnipeg theatre community will be greatly missed. On behalf of everyone at SIR I would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to Jim's family in this difficult time. - Posted by: Lisa Nelson-Fries () on: Oct 04, 2017

Jim and Sharon were wonderful friends for over 30 years. He had been a great support since my husband died a year ago. Many happy memories of Sunday dinners with them at Home St. followed by cutthroat card games and a holiday in London with them with lots of theatre, of course. Jim's assistance with tax matters and his role as my executor will be greatly missed. The closest I had to a brother...... - Posted by: Muriel (Aboul-Atta) Rhind (friend) on: Oct 03, 2017

Very sad to hear today of Jim's passing and thanks to his brother Gary for phoning me. Jim was a great friend since 1970. We shared many adventures with UMSU and various Winnipeg activities. We reconnected over the past ten years and our visits and calls were full of great conversations. His absence will be keenly felt. - Posted by: John Fallows () on: Oct 03, 2017

Jim I am going to miss you - just as I miss my dearest friend Sharon - we shared many good times over the years of which I often recall with fondness. You had a special sense of humor and you were a wonderful husband to Sharon. My deepest sympathy to your family and the Saskatchewan people. - Posted by: Lorraine Klippel (Friend) on: Oct 01, 2017
