RUDOLPH (RUDY) DELESKE December 31, 1934 - September 1, 2017 Surrounded by the love of his family, Rudy Deleske - dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather - passed away suddenly on Friday, September 1 at 82 years of age. Rudy was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Agnes, and his brother Art. Rudy was a devoted family man who will live on in the hearts of his loving wife Joan, children Paul (Sharon), Diane (Darrell) and Garth (Lory), grandkids Devon, Bryan (Ashley), Ashleigh (Corey), Austin and Meghan, and great-granddaughters Shyanne and Autumn. Spending time with his loved ones was always one of his greatest pleasures; Rudy and Joan travelled extensively across western Canada to visit the many places they called home. Rudy was a man of integrity, true to his word, dedicated to what, in his eyes, was right, and always generous and giving to his family. The family had recently come together in Alberta in celebration of a rare milestone: Rudy and Joan's diamond (60th) wedding anniversary. Born in Winnipeg, Rudy worked for 32 years with the City of Winnipeg's Streets and Transportation Department, and retired in 1993. Five years later, he and Joan relocated to a new home on Vancouver Island. During 20 happy years there, Rudy often referred to "living in paradise." Throughout his life in Winnipeg and on the Island, Rudy was always keen to explore an intriguing country road and savour new experiences. He greatly enjoyed engaging with neighbours and friends, and was first to offer a helping hand when a job needed to be done or a home improvement project tackled. Rudy's strong work ethic and dedication were admirable testaments to the kind of man he was. We wish to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robert Maccari for his many years of professional care and concern, and to the staff and volunteers of the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their compassion and kindness during our loved one's final days. At Rudy's request, cremation has taken place and a family interment will occur at a later date. No service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favourite charity in Rudy's memory would be gratefully appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.yatesmemorial.ca

  • Joan, I am so sorry for your loss. I often wondered where you and Rudy were and I know how much you loved your family! I am still teaching at ML and think if you every Christmas when I put up my decorations. You gave me the roller skate which I hang up faithfully. I hope you are doing well otherwise and would love to hear from you. You can contact me at odaly @retsd.mb.ca. Penny passed away last week. Take care.
