Born: Dec 02, 1926
Date of Passing: Sep 21, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARRY LANGE Our Papa, Opa, Harry Heinz Horst Lange passed suddenly on September 21, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene (Claas), his sisters, Gertraud and Lisbeth, his brother Erich, and brothers-in-law, Wolfgang Kuehne and Helmut Claas. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Irma Kuehne, children, Michael Lange and Carola Lange (Bryan), granddaughter Stephanie (Miguel), and stepgrandchildren, Chris, Bryan and Shea. Born in Berlin, on December 2, 1926, Papa was the youngest of four siblings and had a normal childhood in Berlin. Reaching the age of 18 he was drafted to the army and was sent to the front in France. After his time there he chose to stay on for an additional eight years to work on a farm and became very fluent in French. Shortly upon returning to Germany he met Mutti and they had their first child, Michael. They made a fresh start as a family and immigrated to Canada where their daughter Carola was born. Harry worked at Versatile for many years as a tool and die maker and worked his way up in the company as a Foreman. After retirement he was able to spend more time at the cottage he built himself at Lac du Bonnet. Papa loved the outdoors, spending time with friends going to the beach, camping and fishing which was one of his favourite pastimes. Everyone benefited from his fishing trips as he brought home fish for supper. Papa had a typical dry Berliner humour and family time always was filled with a lot of laughter. Throughout his life he was an avid reader and read almost everything. He had a curious mind and always wanted to know why and would find the answer. He even kept up with the German news in the last year on his smart phone. German culture and language were very important to Papa and Mutti. He joined the St. Hubertus club at the German Society very early on and they spent many weekends and evenings at the German Society participating in club functions. He enjoyed his time there and eventually took positions such as Folklorama coordinator, Folklorama Mayor and the Presidency of the German Society for two terms. Papa made it to a great age and he will be missed greatly. A Celebration of Life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Remembering a lovely man that could often be seen with his dogs in his front yard. He never failed to say or wave a hello. Missing his wonderful smile. - Posted by: Maureen Kolodie (Neighbour) on: May 04, 2023

To Carola, Michael and family, our deepest condolences on the passing of your dad. Unfortunately we only heard about it a few days ago, otherwise we would have attended the celebration of Life. Harry was certainly known for his good sense of humor. Be sure to know that the angels took him to a good place, the same where my parents went not so long ago. My condolences to the family of Harry. He served the German speaking community well and will sadly be missed. He was always known to have a smile, with who ever he met. He did very well in life. As always it is too soon. As always with the Faith Es War Einmal und jetz ist Aufwiedersehn. - Posted by: Franz Unger (Friend) on: Oct 03, 2017

I have a vivid memory of Harry standing outside with his little dogs, stick in hand to keep them from traffic or from wandering too far. He was always ready with a wave as I passed by. Our condolences to the family at this sad time. Dave and Barb Johns - Posted by: Barb Johns (Neighbour-59-laval) on: Oct 01, 2017
