KENNETH HACKETT March 31, 1940 - September 27, 2017 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Hackett on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. Ken will be dearly missed by his wife Kathy, daughter Sharon (Russ), son Dave (Diane), grandsons Daniel (Cassandra) and Andrew, sister Gail (Nestor), brother Jim (Julie), and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents, William (Bill) and Jean Hackett. Most of Ken's childhood and adolescent years were spent in East Kildonan, where he developed several lifelong friendships from days spent playing street hockey and football. Ken spent most of his career in sales with Robinson & Webber and Kay Containers in Winnipeg, travelling and servicing clients in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Northern Ontario. He loved sharing stories about his career in the world of sales and the many friendships he made and maintained along the way. Family meant everything to Ken, and he paid particular interest to his beloved grandsons and was very involved in their activities while they were growing up - attending hockey, dance, curling and school functions. He hated missing any event that they were involved in. With family and friends he would eagerly recount the developments in their lives with a deep sense of pride. He was an active member in his church, and enjoyed going out for breakfast with friends on Sundays. Ken possessed a unique ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone by finding commonalities with people in the routine matters of day to day life. He was very jovial and loved telling stories and sharing fond remembrances of the old days. With his effervescent sense of humour, Ken loved playing practical jokes on friends and family. Ken was also an avid sports fan. Of course he loved the Jets and Bombers, but there was a special place in his heart for his beloved San Francisco Giants. A highlight for him was getting the opportunity to travel to Phoenix to see them play - a generous retirement gift that he greatly appreciated. Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Father Rodrigo Lazarte and Father Owen Steeves at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke St. at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2. There will be a viewing beginning one hour prior to the service. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Harvey Lee, Dr. Martha Ainslie, the home care workers that assisted with Ken's care, and the family and friends that came by to visit and offer their support in the last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Association (cpff.ca) or a charity of one's choice would be greatly appreciated. • Dear Kathy and Family, On behalf of all Ken's friends at RW Consumer Products (formally Robinson & Webber) we are so very sorry to hear of Ken's passing. Ken was always well liked and had the respect of all those he worked with. Ken enjoyed building strong relationships with his customers and was genuinely appreciated by all of them. Earlier in the week I thought of Ken and tried finding him on the Internet. However, I had planned a trip with my youngest daughter to PEI and Nova Scotia, where we are now. I apologize that I will not be able to attend Ken's service. Under any other circumstances I would be there. May God bless Ken richly and give pease to you Kathy and your family. • So saddened to hear of Ken's passing. The Hackett's were a big part of our lives and I cherished the times we spent in our basement on Kildare Avenue. I still remember and talk about when my dad Blake and Ken would listen to Mario Lanza during the Christmas season. They would turn the lights out, have a cocktail and blast the music. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Take care. - Posted by: Lucy Stoppler (Moreau) (Friend) on: Sep 30, 2017
