Date of Passing: Sep 25, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTED ZAPP It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ted Zapp in Victoria, BC on September 25, 2017. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Elsie, sister-in-law Belinda, nieces, Lynette (Greg), Karen (Curtis) and Diane (Jeff), nephews Mark and Daniel. Ted was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 26, 1933. After graduating high school, Ted worked in his father's fur shop, learning how to make mink coats. After his father's death, Ted bartended at the then famous Town n' Country restaurant and Towers Nightclub, working his way up to become the General Manager. He booked and introduced legendary artists such as Barbara Streisand and Sara Vaughn. Ted then owned several businesses in Calgary and Winnipeg. Ted spent his retirement years as an ambassador of his home town of Victoria, BC. He was known and loved by establishments such as Laurel Point Inn and Milestones Restaurant on the harbour, where he sang and shared his knowledge of the most salient island tourist attractions with visitors. Ted is remembered as a 'grand' man with great charisma who always carried a song in his heart. Sun shining, birds singing, and all that good stuff. At Ted's request, cremation has taken place and no funeral will be held. Your joy of life and music will be missed. Rest in Peace Ted.

I really never got to know my cousin, Teddy, as we moved from Winnipeg to Norwalk, California when I was 11 yrs of age. I remember him staying with us with his friend Zibby (sp?) on one occasion. I didn’t even know he sang! My husband and Ted would have enjoyed singing together! By reading his obit, I just found out that he and my sister Joan were born the same year 1933. I guess my Mother and my Aunty Anne were pregnant at the same time too! May you Rest In Peace cousin! - Posted by: Gail Anthony Davis (First cousin- my Mother (Nettie Slobodian Anthony & his Mother (Anne Slobodian Zapp were sisters) on: Jul 14, 2020

I met Ted in 1980 and while I was in university lived in a boarding house for 5 years in Victoria where he also resided. He had so many great and interesting stories of his life to that point, and the people he met and knew. I watched as he built his business in Victoria, and through all the different promotions he would try. He always had a smile and a positive attitude, and whenever I would ask him how he was on any particular day, the reply was always "Grate, like the bottom of a furnace!". I only discovered his passing now (2 years late) as our landlady from those days passed away this month, and I was going to contact him. My deepest sympathies, albeit belated, to Ted's family. Ted was a wonderful person, and had such a positive outlook on life. - Posted by: Brian Schofield (friend) on: Nov 05, 2019

Ted, You were hell of a guy and Margaret, the kids and I always enjoyed running into you and hearing a song- be it on the beach in front of Foster Towers or our spot on the sand at Grand Beach. I am sure if the headstone could tell more stories it would.....Rest in Peace our friend, thanks for all the great memories. - Posted by: Bill Maslanko (friend) on: Oct 22, 2017

Ted was also a "fixture" at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, where he spent many winters. He used to walk along the Beach singing his songs and welcoming tourists. Rest in Peace, My Friend!! - Posted by: Joseph Michaels (Long time friend (Old North End YMCA 42 member "CACS Gang")) on: Sep 30, 2017
