HARRY EDWARD BUDGELL
Born: Nov 30, 1942
Date of Passing: Sep 28, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARRY EDWARD BUDGELL It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Harry on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 74 years. Harry passed after complications from a fall. Harry leaves to mourn his beloved wife Dee Dee; children Kati (Allan), Harry (Sheri), Tannis Kuryk (Bob) and Cari (Kevin); brothers Bevan (Liz), Leonard and David (Dianne); grandchildren Curtis, Riley, Morgan, Randi; Lainie and great-grandchild Michael, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in Canada and England. Harry was predeceased by his mother Isabella and father Harry. Born in Winnipeg on November 30, 1942 Harry lived in St. James with his family. It was there his love of sport began and lasted throughout his life. Harry was an excellent hockey player and was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings. He also excelled in football and played and coached for most of his young adulthood. It was in St. James that Harry met and married Carol and together they brought up their children, Harry, Tannis and Cari. Harry was always very proud of his children and his grandchildren and even after his stroke he tried hard to make it to the hockey arenas to cheer his grandchildren on. In 1986, Harry met Dee Dee, and they began their journey together. The journey was always exciting and interesting as both Harry and Dee Dee had an array of interests, one of them being their daughter, Kati, and supporting her through her love of music. Harry continued his love of sports curling, golfing and playing squash, many times with Dee Dee at his side. Harry and Dee Dee were loyal supporters of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and both he and Dee Dee loved nothing better than cheering their team on at home games and never missed a televised Bomber game. In his work life Harry enjoyed the insurance industry and had over 10 years of claims experience with private adjusting firms before joining Manitoba Public Insurance in the fall of 1971. One of Harry's strengths throughout his career was his interpersonal skills, never a loss for words, Harry was able to talk to anyone about anything. In 2006, Harry suffered a massive stroke and was told he would never walk or talk again. He was sent to Riverview for rehabilitation and with Kati and Dee Dee by his side, Harry left a few months later walking out the door. His speech was impaired but those who knew Harry had no problem communicating with him. Harry's funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota Street. The family wishes to express our appreciation to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital, Deer Lodge Hospital and the care and compassion of the Riverview Health Centre. Dee Dee would also like to thank Dr. Randy Guzman, Dr. Sharon Frechette and Harry's health care aide Hy, for the excellent care they provided to Harry throughout the past 11 years. Donations to the Riverview Health Centre Cycle on Life (Budgell Biker's) are welcomed in lieu of flowers.

I worked with Harry when Autopac was just starting, he was always helpful, knowledgeable, patient, and professional. And years later, dealing with him from the damage repair Industry, he was always fair, considerate, and open to discuss any important issue. He was a gentleman. His smile was honest. - Posted by: Brian A. Klym () on: Oct 07, 2017

Dee Dee, I was very sorry to learn of Harry's passing. Harry and I worked together both prior to MPI coming into existence, as well as with MPI. During that time, our paths crossed many times. (I even got him to come sailing with me). I considered Harry to be a friend and a good guy. My sincere condolences to Dee Dee and family. I was very saddened to read of Harry's passing. We grew up together in St. James, went to school together, played sports, and we also coached football together -- the St. James Jets juvenile football team. We were very proud of the job we did with that young team. I used to meet Harry occasionally over the years and it was always great to touch base and talk about sports, life and music. My sincere condolences to his family. Budg was a good man. - Posted by: Maurice Hogue (Friend) on: Oct 03, 2017
