RICHARD DOUGLAS LAWRENCE Richard Douglas Lawrence "Rick" lost his hard fought battle with cancer on August 30, 2017. Rick was raised in Transcona and graduated from T.C.I. After graduating Rick joined the Canadian Armed Forces, where he proudly rose to the rank of Master Corporal during the many years that he was with them, travelling the world and fighting for our country. After he retired Rick spent a brief stint on the East Coast before he came back home to Winnipeg where he lived until his passing. Rick was a true "Jock" and an excellent athlete. He loved and played all sports but was an avid hockey and football player as well as being a weight and power lifting fanatic. He spent most of his youth on the hockey rink, and was more at home in a gym than anywhere else. Rick is survived by his parents Douglas and Donna Lawrence, brothers Stephen (Cindy) and Zachary, and sister Marilyn, as well as niece and nephews Courtney and James and Andrew and Tennaigha. He was predeceased by his beloved younger sister Patti. Rick lived his life on his terms and with his own unique style and he will be sadly missed. A Celebration of Life for Rick will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Legion. All are invited to please come and join us to share a few memories and stories. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Transcona Legion would be greatly appreciated.

  • Heartfelt condolences to the Lawrence Family on the loss of your son Rick. We were schoolmates and neighbours and many evenings were spent on the outdoor rinks. He had a lovely mom who made great birthday cakes and beautiful babies. I remember when Zachary was born and how we all ooo'd and awww'd over him.. I've often what happened to Rick once he left for the service. It is nice to know he has a successful career and continued his sports which he excelled at. it would have been nice to run into him later in life.
