KENNY ELMER NOVAK May 1939 - October 2017 Just as the sun was rising, at the age of 78, our beloved husband, father and grandfather left us as quietly as he had been in life. Ken was predeceased by his parents, John Novak and Lillian Troffer (Gregoroski); siblings Anne, Margaret, Kay, Tony, Henry and Frances. He leaves to mourn his wife Florence (Beatty); sons, Ken (Lynn), James, Jason (Jennifer) and Daniel; grandchildren, Zach, Taigen, Zeb, Dylan, Samantha, Matthew, Dany and Colton; Florence's children, Derrick, Colin and Steven, and her grandchildren, Calum, Izabella and Jaymie; his sisters, Helen and Carolyne (Seppo); brother Stanley (Janey), and many nieces and nephews. Ken was born in the Municipality of Langford, MB, raised in Arden, Neepawa, Mountain Road, Prairie Grove and finally Winnipeg. In elementary he learned violin and received awards as a school patrol. As a young man he helped his brother-in-law build some homes in what is now Windsor Park. At 16 he began a long career at C.P. Rail as a blacksmith. Ken and Virginia married in 1963. They raised four very rambunctious boys. They loved to spend holidays at Lac Lu with good friends, Charlie and Jeananne. Kelly and Bonnie have been his lifelong friends of more than 45 years. It would be remiss to forget pals, Wagner and Jonsey, and neighbours, Marc and Marlene. Ken and Flo married in November 1992. They took their first big motor trip with Dan and Steven (the young ones) through the northern states and western Canada - quite the adventure. As a couple they visited Hawaii, Virginia, the East and West coast with lots of great times in between. Our Ken was a cowboy at heart. He loved hearing about the "old" west, listened to only country music and read stacks of western novels. He watched every Western ever made - over and over ... Ken looked at home in boots, vest and stetson. He spent the last years of his working life at the St. Boniface Golf Club. He loved his job and the "guys". What could be better than to be outside and riding a big machine! Sadly Ken's last years were spent in and out of hospital, however, he never complained. He showed us such strength during this difficult time. Lying on his bed, by your comfy chair, Bosco waits for you old friend. We wish to thank his caregivers at Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital, especially Health Sciences Centre D5 and 8th Floor Palliative Care St. Boniface. Special thanks to Dr. N. Rush. You were all amazing. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 can be made. A celebration will be held for Ken, Friday, October 13, 2017 at the St. Boniface Golf Club, 100 Youville St., Winnipeg at 1:00 p.m. "Tell my boys I love them" Goodbye My Love...

  • I have been friends with Chick for 61 years since we were youngers. We called our group of friends the magnificent 7, which included myself, Jerry Dennis, and Allan Ruthig, Ron Wagner, Bob Jones (Jonsey). We always used to reminisce about the time we met at Grand Beach and were partying at the beach when Chick ran along and as he went to hurdle the garbage can, but fell in! There was also many times we used to meet up at my house where my mom had made potato champagne, this one time in particular Chick went to leave after the evening and he couldn't find the driveway to leave! So many good times as we grew, married, and raised children. We may not have spent a lot of time together in the past years, however when we got together the last time we visited, we remarked how the two of us were the last left of our Magnificent 7. Happy trails my friend, until we get together again with the rest of our dear friends. There are many stories we will be able to tell as we reminisce. You're missed. • I was very sad to hear of your dad's passing. Although it has been many years since I last saw him, he was always ready to welcome us into his home. He was a long time family friend since young Ken and my brother Norm Smith became friends many, many years ago. My parents were also good friends with him. Thoughts and prayers to Florence, Ken, James, Jason and Daniel. as well to Florence's family. R.I.P. Mr Novak you're in pain no longer. :( Kim (Smith) Crosby - Posted by: Kim Crosby nee Smith (life time family friend) on: Oct 07, 2017
