ROGER CARTER Peacefully, and surrounded by his loving wife Gail and their family, Roger Carter passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Grace Hospital, at age 80. Roger is predeceased by his parents, Lloyd Tracey Carter and Helena Lucille (Clark) Carter and his first wife Vivienne. Roger was born and raised in Hamilton, ON, where he made cherished memories that he would carry with him for his entire life. Roger would often fondly recount tales from his youth, whether it was spending summers in the orchards on his grandparents' property or working for his father at part-time jobs, he never forgot the place he grew up and the people he met there. As one of four siblings, he was fortunate enough to go on to have several nieces and nephews of whom he would speak glowingly and were very dear to him. Roger moved to Winnipeg in the early 1970s and quickly became an active member of the community developing friendships that he would keep for the rest of his life. Roger worked in several positions for different companies in his early days, often involving sales and travel. He would go on to form Carter Agencies and would run this successful venture until he finally retired from it earlier this year. Roger met Gail in 1999 and a whirlwind romance quickly ensued. They would soon be married and, together, they purchased their dream home in St. Francois Xavier. Roger would spend the next several years making their house a home they would both be proud of. It was here Roger was most at ease. He was his happiest while riding his tractor, often, with a grandchild on his knee and a faithful dog by his side. When not at their home in St. Francois Xavier, Roger and Gail would spend summers at their family cottage in Whiteshell Provincial Park. Sometimes, it would be packed with many family members, grandchildren and dogs, and the hectic energy that they often bring. Roger never complained and from time to time would just go off on his own to be found puttering with one project or another. Roger was a hands-on person with an inquisitive mind who loved to build and fix things. Whether it was repairing an old light fixture or building a kit car from scratch, Roger was up for the challenge. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and never turned down a request for assistance from a friend or family member in need. Roger was a kind soul and a good person who was loved and cherished by his family and friends. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. A private ceremony in his memory is planned. • I was SO sorry to hear of Roger's passing. He was an incredible, strong man with a heart of gold. He would just "fight" every obstacle that was given him. I admired his strength and courage and positivity with everything that was given him. It's been many years working with Roger at Superlite as our rep. He always had a story to tell and loved sharing his Vegas trip stories. Those were some of his favourite times and I loved hearing about them and how "lucky" his wife Gail was at the machines!!! he talked about the grandkids often and how he loved them all, especially Gail!!!! I will miss him coming in to the store once a week. Gone, but not forgotten. xoxoxoxo Joanne - Posted by: Joanne Popeski (friend from Superlite lighting) on: Oct 10, 2017

  • Roger was one of the first sales reps to call on me when I opened my business in the 80s and it was the start of a long and happy relationship not only on business but it turned into being a long lasting friendship. His visits were always a hi-lite to the day as the conversation could cover a wide variety of subjects and eventually would end up with some good laughs. i have met many sale reps over the years and few of them will be remembered as i will remember Roger. Sincere sympathy to all of the family and he will be missed by them and his many friends - Posted by: Red Hutmacher (friend) on: Oct 09, 2017

  • So sorry for your loss Gail. Roger was a wonderful man and I truly enjoyed when he stopped by my office to chat when he was bringing you a Tim's coffee at Birchwood. He was obviously very thoughtful and caring. My thoughts and prayers are with you Gail, and to yours and Roger's families. - Posted by: Rob Sawchuk (Friend) on: Oct 08, 2017
