CATHERINE (KATH) MARY KINAHAN (nee DELUCA) and THOMAS (TOM) F. KINAHAN After 67 years of marriage, Kath was looking out for Tom one last time, making sure he got away okay before she would leave herself. She gave him a four-hour head start, and then joined him. Of Thomas Francis Kinahan: Getting his start on Coca Cola delivery trucks in Thunder Bay, TFK ended an accomplished career in the soft-drink industry some 40 years later as President of Pathfinder Beverages in London. When he retired, Dad continued to dedicate a great deal of time to his office - this time at home - sorting through the paperwork of a busy, active life, and cursing his computer. The rest of his time was focused on Kath, his children, grandchildren and friends. Weekly dates with a special group of friends meant adventurous lunches, dinners, and attending theatre performances in and around London. He was a personable man, and people always told us how much they liked him. Of Catherine Mary Kinahan: Our mom was ready to help everyone, in any way she could. You wouldn't expect someone who didn't swear, drink or smoke to be as much fun to be around. But her many partners and opponents for decades of tennis, golf, bridge, scrabble and rummy will vouch that she brought warmth and spirit to the court, course and card table, as she did to the Blessed Kateri library and the many other places she volunteered. She was a homemaker in the pure sense of the word - she made for us a home, and filled it with her kindness, generosity and wisdom. She built our boats; she filled our sails. Kath was predeceased by her brothers, Tom, Bud, Jim and John; and held dear her sisters, Ruth and Rita, in Thunder Bay; and her brother Bill, in Cranbrook. Tom was predeceased by his brothers, Eugene and John; and sisters, Mary, Margaret and Lorrie. They were together bereft by the loss last year of their beloved son Tom (Beverly). And they leave to miss them daily their children, Corrie, Jane (Chuck) and David (Carolyn); and grandkids, Katie, Zachary, Sam, Samara, Liam, Molly and Quinn. Their Nana would tap her cheek in expectation of a kiss - a loving gesture they'll perhaps carry forward in their lives as legacy. The family will have a private funeral mass. Friends who would like to do something in their memory, please consider a donation to your local food bank - they liked getting people something to eat.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • We always remember how warmly Tom and Kath welcomed us into their home - and we have very fond memories of Max trying to help Tom whenever he got frustrated with his new computer! We offer our heartfelt condolences to David, Carolyn, Liam and Molly and all the Kinahan family. Our thoughts are with you all. Love from Chris, Max, Ben & Sophie Wall. xoxo - Posted by: Christine & Jeremy (Max) Wall (Friends) on: Oct 16, 2017

  • I was a close friend of Tom's/JR. through our formative years? ( young/passed/Jr.) and was lucky to have known both his folks/siblings, Jane, Cory, David. Tom Jr. and I moved out in a Wpg apt, in '75 on Home Street after he moved back from the East. I have fond memories of the family on Fletcher Cres. ( where I now reside across the street) and was heart warmed by seeing them again at Tom jr.'s memorial. Time flies, but memories last forever. I'm heartbroken to hear about two more deaths, but imagine the Kinahans setting a dinner table in another zone, with their generous smiles and loving nature. Peace be with you. • Mom and I have been reminiscing about our time as neighbors on the Crescent. We both agree that Tom and Kathy were two of the nicest people you could hope to know. Lots of good memories and laughs! Love to you David and all the family. - Posted by: Linda and Sylvia Eagleton (friends) on: Oct 12, 2017

  • Tom was not with with Coca-Cola Ltd. in Toronto for all of my time there (35 years) but he was a wonderful man to know and to work with. He left an indelible impression with me, as he likely did with everyone with whom he associated. I'm sorry that it was so long since I last saw Tom but I'm certainly grateful for having made his acquaintance. He will be missed. - Posted by: Tom Groot (Fellow Coca-Cola employee (Toronto)) on: Oct 12, 2017

  • Dear: David, Corrie, Jane and family. Please accept our sincere condolences on your loss. Your parents life is a true love story setting a high standard for all of us to follow. I know Kath's sister, Rita Armstrong (DeLuca), (my mom), would want to express her sympathy and send her love if she was able to comprehend life's events. God bless you and provide you with the strength to deal with your recent loss. Much love. Roy, Bonnie and Rita - Posted by: Roy Stock (cousin) on: Oct 11, 2017

  • I worked for Tom at the Coke plant on Inkster many years ago. He was a consummate businessman but never lost touch with the drivers, salesmen and line staff at the plant. He was always interested in any suggestions and believed in the Coke systems. He made a big difference in the Winnipeg refreshment industry and never lost touch with having a little fun with the job as well. An icon in the soft drink business. - Posted by: Allan Tucker (former employee) on: Oct 11, 2017
