Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONA LENORA MCLACHLAN (nee SWANSON) May 1, 1925 September 23, 2017 It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our Aunt Mona due to complications from a fall. She passed away peacefully on September 23 in the presence of family. Mona inspired us with her sense of humour, optimism, determination and zest for life. She will be missed and remembered dearly. Mona loved watching movies and television, playing games on her iPad and texting with family. Born in Wauchope, Saskatchewan, she was one of four children of Orill and Bertha Swanson (sister Gloria and brothers, Boyd and Terry). The family soon moved to Winnipeg where they grew up. Mona met her future husband Jack (John) McLachlan, on November 11, 1948 and married on October 1, 1949, in Winnipeg. During Jack's career they moved to several different cities throughout North America including Vancouver, Chicago, Vacaville, Modesto and Palm Desert, where they retired. Jack travelled extensively throughout the world on business and was frequently joined by Mona. Mona entertained us with many stories of their travel experiences. They would spend several months each year in Canada during the Palm Desert summer. Jack passed away in February of 2010 in Palm Desert after a brief battle with cancer. After Jack's passing, Mona moved back to Winnipeg to be near her sister Gloria. They enjoyed a year and a half of togetherness with outings to local casinos and dinners with family members. After Gloria passed away in 2012, Mona remained in Winnipeg, where she continued to enjoy her final years with nephews, Randy and Gary and their wives, Janet and Cindy. We will miss these special occasions with both of them. Mona was predeceased by sister Gloria, brother Boyd and sister-in-law Lenore. She is survived by brother Terry Swanson (Trudene), nephew Ron Burkett (Marilyn) (great-nephews, Kevin and Jeff), nephew Randy Burkett (Janet) (great-nephew Steve, great-nieces, Christine, Amber and Tiiu), nephew Gary Burkett (Cindy) (great-nephew Kyle, great-niece Kira), nephews, Mike McLachlan and Frank Palmiere (Laurie) (great-nephews, Frankie, Nathan, Caden, Levi), and nieces, Mona McLachlan and Tracy Gulliver (Scott) (great-nephew Nikki, great-niece Danielle) and sister-in-law Maureen McLachlan and nephew Gary Palmiere. Mona will also be missed by her close friends, Sue and Dave Byford from Palm Desert. We would also like to express our appreciation to the staff of Seine River Retirement for making Mona feel so welcome. The management and staff obviously care a great deal for their tenants. Also, a special thank you to the nurse Christine, for the excellent care she provides. To honour Mona's wishes, no service will be held. A private family memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Mona's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thank you to Mosaic Funeral Home for their exceptional service.
