ROLAND EDWARD FONTAINE July 2, 1954 - October 8, 2017 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, on October 8, 2017. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Linda (Lamontagne) and his children, Nicole (Kirk), Michelle (Jason), Donna (Evan): his nine grandchildren, Madison, Jordon, Colton, Danielle; Alexis, Xavier, Jaden and Zack, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Roland was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Rita, and a brother Gerry. He is survived by his four sisters, Céline, Yvonne (Roger), Jeannine (Maurice) and Pauline, and special sister-in-law (Rose); brothers, Alphonse (Janet), Paul (Mary) and Lionel. Roland was raised in Richer and he worked as a roofer in his early years. He then changed his career as a pulp cutter and worked for G&R Logging Gilles Nault, which Roland considered him like a brother. His love for horses gave him an opportunity to join Harness racing as a hobby for many years with his family and friends. Roland was a selfless and caring person always willing to give a helping hand. He reminded us recently that we take life for granted. He wished he would of given more hugs and kisses to his children. Roland enjoyed everyones visits at home and hospital. He especially enjoyed the visits from his childhood friend Denis Dubois. Thanks goes out to his family Dr. P.G. Mehta in St. Boniface and also to Dr. A. Bissonette and staff at the Ste. Anne Hospital. Respecting Roland's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private graveside service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
