SHARYN (SHARY) EILEEN SMITH (nee ANWENDER) August 31, 1949 - October 10, 2017 Peacefully, after a hard fought battle with cancer, Shary passed away at the age of 68 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Amelia Anwender; brothers, Bobby and Ron; father-in-law Malcolm Smith; brother-in- law Jim Neuman; and granddaughter Layla. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Brian; children, Scott (Anita) and Murray (Mellissa); grandchildren, Finn and Leighton; sister Carol Neuman; sisters-in-law, Joanne Neuman, Dianne Smith; brothers-in-law Blair and Ian Smith; and mother-in-law Audrey Smith. Shary was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up just outside the city, on the family farm. She had a passion for helping others and after high school completed nursing studies with the world renowned Grey Nuns, in Regina. Shary also had a passion for travel and in her younger years made it as far as Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Hawaii and even lived in Scotland for a short time. In 1978, she moved to Winnipeg to pursue ICU nursing at the Health Sciences Centre. Shortly after moving to Winnipeg she met Brian. Brian quickly knew how good a catch she was and swept her off her feet. In love, she obtained a beginner's Class 1 Licence and went trucking with Brian so they could spend more time together prior to starting a family. Once children came along, she retired from nursing and became a full-time mother, which by far was her greatest achievement. In 2014, she was overjoyed to become a grandmother, and again in 2016, which became her greatest joy until the end. Funeral service to be held Monday, October 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
