Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLUKE MURRAY JANSEN He comes from a long line of love... ...and that love will enfold us as we share the sad news of the death of our precious Luke. Luke, along with his Mom and Dad (Z'Anne and Brad) and his younger brother Ethan are "The Harvey-Jansen's". Luke was born on March 9, 1995 in Edmonton, AB, and heartbreakingly passed away in Edmonton on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 22 years old. Luke was blessed with a great extended family who he hung out with on a regular basis - his paternal grandparents Stuart and Marilyn Jansen; Uncle Wayne and Aunty Monika Jansen (Tyler, Megan); Aunty Maureen Mueller (Sam); Aunty Pam and Uncle John Van der Laan; Uncle Blair and Aunty Jennifer Harvey (Dakota, Keaton and Madison); Uncle Darrell Harvey and Aunty Katie Rollwagen (Felix, Annika); and his local Doern second cousins Tracey and Dennis Carr (Landyn, Colton and Hannah) and Todd and Heidi Sutherland (Noah, Grace) and Ann and Rick Morrison. More love and joyful fun extended from across Canada and the UK through his maternal Harvey, Murray, Doern, and Carlson clans, and his paternal Jansen, Erling, Roth and Ruch clans. Luke was very close to all his grandparents, losing his maternal Grandma Karen Ann Harvey in 2009 and hearing many stories about his namesake Grandpa Murray Harvey (1939 to 1982). He will continue to be dearly loved by Bobby, his roommates Connor, Jordan and Ian, his North of Here bandmates Will, Ian and Caleb, and many other treasured friends. Luke was a Sherwood Park guy for most of his life. He attended Brentwood Elementary School, Sherwood Heights Junior High School and graduated in 2013 from Bev Facey Community High School, where he was involved in basketball, leadership, concert and jazz band, honour choir and creative music. He grew up involved in Sunday School and YAC at Sherwood Park United Church. He loved spending summer vacations at the Harvey cottage at Clearwater Lake near The Pas, Manitoba. He attended the University of Alberta with a major in political science and a minor in economics, and was President of the Political Science Undergraduate Association (2016 to 2017). Luke presented his honours thesis "YEG Live: The Effect of Public Policy on Live Music Venues in Edmonton", and he celebrated his Convocation this spring 2017. The warehouse at Pegasus Paper, officiating basketball for EBOA, two summer student stints with Strathcona County Economic Development and Tourism, a brief time as the 2017 Deputy Returning Officer for the University of Alberta's Student Union, and his present seven months with Strathcona County Legislative and Legal department as Election Assistant, all received his energy and enthusiasm. In September he interviewed with the Premier's Office for his next great work adventure. As part of the band North of Here, Luke recently prepared an Alberta Foundation for the Arts grant for their next commercial recording project. After years of schlepping at Edmonton Folk Fest, Luke's own band played Canmore, Winnipeg and Edmonton's Folk Festivals. Luke was lovin' life and he excitedly shared each milestone along the way with his dear family and friends. Luke's Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Sherwood Park United Church (20 Fir Street, Sherwood Park, AB). Luke's legacy will include a memorial fund that inspires mentoring and music-making, just like he was so blessed to experience in his life! If you would like to be a part of this tribute, please make cheques payable to "Brad Jansen" or "Barbara Cardinal" or donate digitally through an e-transfer to LukeJansenMemorial@shaw.ca. Thank you.
