Date of Passing: Oct 14, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAVIS MCMILLAN (nee OLSON) It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Mavis on October 14, 2017. Born at Victoria Beach on April 3, 1933. Mavis will be missed every day by her loving children and grandchildren: Janice (Mike), Stefan, Adam, Kathryn; Gail (Craig), Mitchell, Carson, Landon; Heather (Glen), Sarah, Alyssa, Brianna, Ryan; Debra (Wayne), Brett, Brendan, Andrew; and Robert (Ruth), Lisa (Martin), Scott and great-granddaughter Blakely. She also leaves to mourn her sister Lorraine; sisters-in-law Linda (Bob), Diane (David) and Carole, as well as many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Don; parents Ena and Frank; in-laws Frances and Archie; brothers Douglas and infant Kenneth, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Mavis left Victoria Beach at the age of 16 to take courses at Success Business College in Winnipeg. She worked at C.N.R. as a comptometer operator until she married Don, the love of her life, on October 28, 1961. They had a wonderful marriage and enjoyed many adventures at Victoria Beach, camping, travelling and spending time with friends at the Fort Rouge Curling Club. Mavis showed us her incredible strength when she lost Don far too young in a tragic accident. She continued to face each day with her cheerful, positive and energetic personality. Victoria Beach was the most special place on earth to Mavis and her family. Many incredible times were shared at the cottage and precious memories were made. Spending time with her grandchildren was a priority to her and she was very proud of each and every one of them. Mavis remained active her entire life. Even at 82, if you were climbing 100 steps in Iceland - so was she! She was kind and always generous with her time and energy. She loved to plan and organize, cook, bake and take care of everyone. She was the best mother and Amma we could have asked for. She also enjoyed time spent with her Wednesday Morning Ladies, The Red Hats and on the Special Events Committee at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Funeral service was held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on October 19, 2017. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care team, in particular Richard and Gloria. In lieu of flowers, donations to thedreamfactory.ca or a charity of your choices would be appreciated. "A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take." We love you Mom. Give Dad a hug for us. We'll keep you close in our hearts until we see you again. My Mother Rae Thomas was a longtime friend of your mother and as such, we her daughters came to know her as well. Each summer at Victoria Beach I looked for her. Many a time I ran into her with one or more of you in tow. We enjoyed visits and she would try to attend our tea and bannock gatherings each summer. I may not know each of you as I was somewhat older but I knew all about you as she shared her pride of you all. We also had lunch together at pine Fall when Corrine visited. Sheila loved this as well. I feel for your loss of this wonderful woman. Thank you for all the love and care you gave to her. You again did your Mom proud to have honoured her this way. - Posted by: Marie Buchok (Thomas) (Friend) on: Oct 18, 2017

Oh Gail & Craig, we are so sorry to hear about Mavis. She certainly put up a valiant struggle, but I think she's finally at peace now. She was a wonderful lady, and even though we haven't seen her in quite some time, we always enjoyed talking to her and visiting at family dinners. Take care of yourselves and our condolences also to the rest of your family. If there's anything we can do, please don't hesitate to let us know. Take care... xo - Posted by: Sue & Gil (in-laws) on: Oct 17, 2017
