Joyce is survived by her sister Orla Camp (Charles); nephew Gordon Camp (Andrea); niece Beverley Brown (George); nephew Brian Camp (Debbie); many nephews, nieces and great-grandnephews and nieces; as well as her dog Koko. She was predeceased by her husband Don Stay (1998); father Richard (Dyck) Owen; mother Jean Owen (Young), and her brother Robert (Bob) Owen. On January 11, 1930 Joyce was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She lived in Winnipeg all her life and attended Machray and St. John's Technical High School. Joyce started work at The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce when she was 16 years old, and remained employed with the bank for 44 years. Almost all of this time was at the Portage and Garry branch, where throughout the years she had many special co-workers, customers and friends. Joyce was a very generous woman who enjoyed life, and all the social activities with her husband Don. Many wonderful years were spent at the family cottage in Sandy Hook. In her later years after Don's death, she lived a full life with her family of nieces and nephews, and her special friends in her Silver Heights neighbourhood. Joyce always had a very positive attitude, and was always meeting new friends and neighbours. Joyce will be sadly missed by her family and friends, and her dog Koko. A celebration of Joyce's life will take place on Sunday, October 29, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue at the corner of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue. The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their exceptional care. Should friends desire, a donation in her name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Joyce exuded warmth and kindness. I met Joyce in 1990 when our family bought the house across the street. My Mom, Oi Fong, became good friends with Joyce. They would go out grocery shopping and run errands with one another. I remember her dogs Gypsy, Bubbles and Koko - did she ever love her fur-kids! I left Winnipeg in 1998, but made a point of visiting Joyce every time I went back home, and our phone chats. I will miss Joyce’s handwritten cards, and how her face lit up every time I saw her. She was a very special person, and the world isn’t the same without her. I wish Joyce’s family peace. Kar-Wei Lam and family - Posted by: Kar-Wei Lam (Former neighbor) on: Oct 22, 2017

Joyce welcomed us with open arms (and all the up to date community news) when we first moved in to the neighbourhood in 2010. She was like a extra grandmother to our two young children Charlotte and Jack. Joyce was also with me right after my mother died, comforting me the very next day. Joyce taught my children about the kindness of neighbours, and how people are good. That is such a wonderful gift for our children! The kids would run over to Joyce's and play in her yard and basement, they felt welcome any time, as many children on Fidler ave have over the years, I would imagine. Joyce would come to family parties and give generous gifts - she was in our family. Jack is a bit too young to understand where Joyce is (he is 3) but Charlotte is deeply saddened (she is 6) and impacted by this loss. She wishes she could come back, or at least talk to her on the phone. We are so thankful for the opportunity to have met Joyce! We think the world of her and love her so very much. She will be missed dearly and remembered forever. Love always, The Meuckon family. - Posted by: Laura Meuckon (Neighbour ) on: Oct 21, 2017
