WILLIAM ROY BURGESS September 17, 1948 - October 13, 2017 With great sadness we announce the passing of Bill...brother, uncle and friend. Bill will be greatly missed by his sisters Roberta Burgess and Cathie (Keith) McDowell, his Aunt Dorothy Jones, niece Kelsey (Mirek) Lyszczynski, nephew Kyle (Vanessa) McDowell, as well as many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, his good friend Ed, and many others. He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Eileen (nee Jones) Burgess. Bill was born in Winnipeg, MB and attended Grant Park High School. He continued his education, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree and pursued a career as a Respiratory Therapist. His career took him to a variety of positions - a Respiratory Therapist at Children's Hospital Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre, an Instructor of Respiratory Therapy at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre, an instructor at NATE in Edmonton, AB and he also worked in the Cardio-Pulmonary Department at King Fahad National Guard Hospital, Saudi Arabia, where he continued his love of teaching. Bill co-authored the book, "Respiratory Therapy in Newborn Infants and Children" with Dr. V. Chernick. Bill enjoyed being in the wilderness and especially enjoyed spending time at the Heather Game and Fish Trailer Park with his friends, Phil and Ed. Bill was a member and proud to be an instructor for the Manitoba Wildlife Hunter Education Program. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humour, his dedication to Respiratory Therapy and his love of the wilderness, especially the Yukon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heather Game and Fish Association in Lac du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0 or to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in Bill's honour, on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 246, 1335 Main St., Winnipeg, at 12:30 p.m. Bill, you will always be loved... never forgotten...forever missed. "When it"s time, let me go, mourn me, yes, but don't mourn my loss..."

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I just learned of Bill's passing and want to convey my sympathies to all who loved him. I too met Bill as a student and was amazed at his brilliance, enjoyed his sense of humor and will always remember some of his quirky ways. My thought are with all. - Posted by: Connie Brooks (Friend) on: Aug 09, 2018

  • I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bill! I first met Bill when I was a Respiratory student and he was my instructor. I remember when I was being tested for a skill, he lied down on the floor so I wouldn't be so nervous! When him and I worked together at the Misericordia hospital, we became good friends and helped each other out through our rough patches! I always hoped our paths would cross again but sadly did not. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. The world has lost one its brightest stars! - Posted by: Diane Gauvreau (friend) on: Oct 23, 2017

  • I recruited Bill to Saudi Arabia to help us in the King Fahad Hospital. He was a compassionate clinician and a well prepared educator. We worked together through some fun times and some high stress times; however, his commitment to his profession never wavered. I was then and continue to be proud to call him my friend. Godspeed... - Posted by: Dick Kellie (Respiratory Therapy colleague) on: Oct 23, 2017
