GEORGE STANLEY CLARK January 2, 1931 - October 19, 2017 George Stanley Clark died at home, in the loving care of his wife, Linda, having experienced a startling decline from his lifelong robust health and fitness. George was born in Alert Bay, British Columbia, the second child of George H. and Violet (Rolph) Clark. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (1950 to 1962) serving in northern detachments such as Winnipegosis, and in Winnipeg in C.I.D., the Drug Squad, and Passport and Visa Fraud. George went on to enjoy a career in real estate and he and Linda have been active partners in property ownership and management for over 40 years. He loved crafting and closing a deal; the ink on the latest one had just dried! George had great discipline in healthy eating and lifestyle, and loved skiing, cycling, paddling, Nordic walking, and camping. He was a member of the Red River Nordic Cross Country Ski Association, often winning his age category as a regular Wednesday Night Racer. George's cycling adventures were legendary. He surprised us all by cycling from Winnipeg to Thompson and back in his 60s, but peddled to greater heights in the 1,000-mile cycle of Hope nine times - the last at age 80! His cycle tours in Ireland and on a Bike and Barge Netherlands with friends new and old were special memories. He cherished his circle of cycling friends to the end. Over the years, George and Linda enjoyed many challenging canoe/camping trips, exploring the far north of Alaska, the great heights of the plateaus of New Mexico, the sunny warmth of Cuba, and the rich history of Europe, visiting family along the way, and often bringing home works of art to add to their wonderful collection. George loved ideas. He was an avid reader and loved a good, loud, informed debate about politics, economics, or 20th century history. That never declined. Along with his wife Linda, George leaves his sister Kay and brother Paul (Christine); children Cathy, Lilith, Beverley and Noreen - daughters of Elsie (Billy) Clark; grandchildren Cody, Donna, Jack, Mia and Liam, and Linda's family: Lydia Carrick, Jennifer, Mike, Maddie and Ben Pineau, Bill Carrick and Michael Carrick. Ian and Angela Clark and family have become an important part of George's family circle in Winnipeg. "Attack the Hill!" A social gathering to celebrate George Clark's life and loves will be shared by family and friends on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent. Overflow parking is available in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer's lot across the street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to Habitat for Humanity Manitoba, Fort Whyte Alive, or the charity of your choice.

  • George, thank you for the many memories we have shared together. Cycling, fishing, canoeing and camping were some of the many activities we enjoyed. Our Fort Whyte Alive activities over the past years probably enhanced us more than we will know. May you rest in peace and know you will be in our thoughts always. - Posted by: Dan Topham (Friend) on: Oct 22, 2017
