SANICHAREE (SANDY) GOWRIE (nee NANAAN) 1936 - 2017 On Thursday, October 19, 2017, the eve of Diwali, Sanicharee (Sandy) Gowrie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Beacon Hill Lodge in Winnipeg. Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Vernon Gowrie; her children, Kelvin Navarro (Patsy) Gowrie, Michael (Rhonda) Gowrie, Yvonne (Harlan) Gowrie, Rawle (Grace) Gowrie, Frank Gowrie, Steven (Donna) Gowrie, Winston (Seema) Gowrie, Joyce (Mark) Howard, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and her brother Roy (Kalouti) Nanaan. Sandy was born June 2, 1936 in Trinidad and Tobago to Maniya and Antoo Nanaan, both deceased, as one of three children. She grew up on the island of Trinidad, running a small business as her family grew in size, filling her life with great joy and pride. In 1970 Sandy immigrated to Canada with three of her children and Cousin David Arjoon to join Vernon in Winnipeg. Sandy worked for 25 years in the housekeeping department at the St. Boniface Hospital, becoming a proud Canadian citizen and an active member of Winnipeg's Hindu community. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hazel, Meni, Brenda, Raymond and all the excellent staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for their professional and compassionate care during Sandy's stay. A wake will be held at the Durga Devi Mandir Temple at 499 Jamison Ave. on Monday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, at Thomson in the Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
