DOROTHY MAE JOHANNSON
Date of Passing: Oct 20, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY MAE JOHANNSON It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Mae Johannson in the early evening of October 20, 2017 at the Concordia Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard, son Sheldon (Stephanie), daughter Terry (Bob), grandchildren Josh and Ethan; sisters Marilyn, Barb (Barry), Val, Bev (Bill) and Doreen (Clyde), sister-in-law Linda, brother-in-law Alfred, and sister-in-law Sharon. Predeceased by father Arnold, mother Anne, siblings Arni, Sandra, Richard, and brother-in-law Hugh. Dorothy was always proud of where she grew up and her family. She was born and raised in Hnausa, Manitoba surrounded by loving parents, a large family and close friends. Her upbringing shaped who she was and how she lived her life as a loving, kind, generous and caring person. She always reminisced about how her family may have had humble beginnings, but they thrived in love and support of each other. She met the love of her life Richie in her teens in Riverton and they remained devoted to each other for the next 53 years, spending their lives in Transcona where they made many lifelong friends. Their home was always open to everyone and the welcome mat was always out. This included home cooked feasts, drinks and conversation. She was a dedicated and hard worker who started her career as a dental assistant and worked until her retirement after 24 years with Revenue Canada. However, her best work was in her commitment to family and friends with the support and guidance she provided and the love she shared. She enjoyed spending summers at the Lakehouse in Riverton and found such great peace there. Spending glorious days puttering, catching up with her sisters and brothers and making the place ready for her family's weekend arrival. She enjoyed nature's beauty; bird watching, walking in the woods, spending time at the beach and gardening. She took great pride in her family and house. She also loved to travel all over North America, Mexico was a favourite destination with the family. Her grandsons were her pride and joy and she never missed a soccer, baseball or hockey game, and was always supportive of them in victory or loss. The family would like to thank the staff at the Concordia Hospital for the exceptional care and support that they extended to Dorothy. Memorial service is scheduled for October 29, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Dorothy you will be deeply missed every day, until we meet again... I will truly miss you Auntie Dorothy. I will miss our lil weekend visits in Riverton , your laugh and your smile. Whenever we came to your house , you and Uncle Richie were always offering a bite to eat or drink before we even sat down . I will never forget travelling with you as a child, you always included me in family trips or spending summer vacation at your house. You were a terrific Aunt and friend. Give Granny a hug for me! Love you!💜💋 - Posted by: Kim Ledingham (Niece ) on: Oct 25, 2017
