Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH JOHN JANIK (JANUIK) August 7, 1918 - October 21, 2017 Peacefully, on the morning of October 21, 2017, Joseph John Janik passed away at the age of 99, at Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 4. Born in Whitemouth, Manitoba on August 7, 1918 to Sebastian (Sopko) and Caroline Januik, Joe was the sixth child of 10 and the last surviving member of his siblings. He is dearly missed by his loving wife of 69 years, Alma Janik, daughters Carol Simon (Rolf), Angel Calnek (Darrell Sandmoen), Heather Janik (Mark Vrooman), grandson Jason Calnek (Denielle Lillie), granddaughter Sara Calnek (Chad Moroz), and great-grandsons Gavin Calnek, Jakeob Lillie, Landon Lillie, and by many friends, family, and Legion members. Joe had a zest for life, unmatched by any. A veteran of the Second World War, he had a passion for helping people. He had a strong work ethic and spent many years working as a plasterer and in construction. After retirement, he tapped into his creative side and became an artist, creating unique pieces which were both colourful and inspirational. He loved to dance and laugh and would light up any room he entered. He loved and was truly loved by anyone who met him. The family wishes to thank Joe's caregivers at Tower 4, Deer Lodge Centre. Their compassion and caring helped make his days comfortable and allowed him to die in peace. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe's honour to Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 4, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0L3. "Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime, and departing, leave behind us footprints on the sands of time." - Longfellow.

My condolences go out to the family of Joe Janik. I worked with Heather for many years at MTS and Great-West Life. She spoke often of her father and with much pride. I never met Joe in person but I felt I knew him. His was a life well lived. - Posted by: Russell Rosen (Friend) on: Oct 30, 2017

Dear Alma and family Saddened to read of Joe’s passing. He and your family have held a fond place in our hearts, particularly in Valerie’s Heart. May he Rest In Peace. Joe worked with Val’s dad in the plastering business. He was Valerie’s favourite because in her younger years, Joe would pick her up in the Co. truck every morning and drive her to St. Mary’s Academy. Val often spoke of his talent in whistling and particularly in talking like Donald Duck in the truck. In later life, once Art had passed away and Joe was committed to a senior care home, Val and Alma (Joe’s wife) became quite close, particularly with many phone calls and the odd coffee meeting. Alma was instrumental in Val’s discovering her adoptive status. Alma was the first to confirm her adoption. - Posted by: Robert Friesen (Family acquaintance ) on: Oct 29, 2017

I remember my Mom (Bernice Barske) talking about Joe Januik because she grew up in Whitemouth, too! I also read letters that she kept, written by my Uncle (Paul Barske) saying he was somewhere in Europe during WW II and was going to be meeting up with Joe. My sincerest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Linda Gillis () on: Oct 28, 2017

I met Joe through his daughter Carol, my sister by choice. Both he and Alma would join Carol and myself for garage sales, but not before we filled up at the pancake house :) I will always cherish how welcoming he and Alma made me feel anytime I got to see them. Alma, Carol, Rolf, Heather, Mark, Angel, Darryll, Sara and Gavin my condolences to all of you and your loss. - Posted by: Susan (Friend of the Family) on: Oct 26, 2017
