EDWARD (ED) ROMANIUK Ed passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on October 19, 2017, at the age of 74. Dear Ed - it's been a long and difficult journey, but your peaceful passing makes us feel so grateful. We have so many happy memories of you throughout the years. We will remember your kindhearted nature, your dedication to your family, your quirky sense of humour and your competitive spirit. You loved sports, both as a spectator and an athlete (especially golf, tennis and pool). The Toronto Maple Leafs have never had a more dedicated fan! We remember many fun family times spent at Christmas, Relative Days, playing trivial pursuit and many summers spent at Falcon Lake. So many of us squeezed into that tiny cottage. Times spent at our cottage at Grand Beach were very special, including family dinners in the sunroom, walking along the beach, happy hour at Rocky Beach and making lifelong friendships. Your artistic side came out in your drawing and in later years you even took up singing as a hobby. Happily we were able to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in September. Over the years, you worked hard to support your family. You studied while working full time to earn your Certified General Accounting degree and you worked at several challenging jobs as a Chief Financial Officer. Even throughout your illness, your bravery amazed both of us. Early Onset Dementia took so much away from you. All the dogs in our lives were extremely loved by you, but in the last few years, you and your buddy Tucker were inseparable. We are so thankful that he was able to bring such joy into your life. We are going to miss you very much, but now you are set free! With All Our Love, Mary and Cath Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all the supportive friends and family who have been there over this long journey. We can't thank you enough! Thanks to the people at Selkirk MHC who cared for Ed for many years. He was happy to move back to Winnipeg in 2016 and live at Riverview Health Centre, a wonderful family care centre. In his last two years, he felt so at home, safe and cared for by the amazing staff at Riverview. There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the kindness and support these folks provided to Ed and our whole family! They saw the person behind the illness and they made Ed's life better with their gentle care. His personality brightened and we have happy memories of this time. Also, Tucker will miss his visits and attention received from everyone at Riverview. A small private celebration of life will be held. "But in my heart's the memory, and there you'll always be." Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Hi Mary, I’m so sorry to hear of Rod’s passing. I’ve only been to Winnipeg twice in my life, for you and Rod’s wedding in 1967 and May of 2016. It was so nice to see you again then. It would be wonderful if you and Betty came out to Vancouver for a girl’s cousin visit. Someday when you are fed up with winter! My three daughters Dana, Ali and Leslie and two grandsons Lex and James are here and sisters Pat and Barb on the island in Campbell River, and Lynn and Heather near Chilliwak so only Ellie would have to travel from Saskatoon. Something to plan for? Our thoughts are with you Mary and Catherine, love from Karen. - Posted by: Karen Redhead (Mary and Betty’s cousin) on: Oct 30, 2017
