JENNIFER RUTH TROUGHTON On Sunday, October 22, 2017 Jennifer Ruth Troughton had to leave us. She had fought a long and exhausting battle against cancer. Her strength and composure were awe inspiring, and she stayed joyful until the end. Jen was born in Winnipeg on September 26, 1957, to Merle and Jim MacPherson. She went to Princess Margaret School, then Miles Macdonnell, and later to Success Business College, where she completed training in the administration of a medical office. Her family vacationed often in western Ontario, and later at Winnipeg Beach. Jen was very socially active, competing in Highland Dancing, and then joining Job's Daughters where she worked through the levels to become Honoured Queen. In December 1980, Jennifer married a lucky guy named Norm Troughton. Two years later, Patrick was born, then Chris in 1983, and Cameron in 1986. Jennifer worked hard to keep several physicians organized at the Winnipeg Clinic for years, and then went into retail at Saan, and then Zellers. In 1992 the family moved to Morden, the city welcomed us, and our children grew strong. In 1999 the family came back to Winnipeg, and she worked in Zellers as a supervisor until it closed. With her background in management and retail, she later built a strong, new business managing her own flea market at Thirsty's on 1111 Ellice. Jen was predeceased by her father Jim, her mother Merle, and her sister Laurie. Jen has always supported her community. When young, she was a blood donor, a CPR first aid instructor, and a supporter of the Cub Beaver Scouting program. For years she helped teach English as a second language to new Canadians. Jennifer's battle with cancer was a terrible, heartbreaking trial, and it was amazing to watch her patience and endurance. Many who worked with her weren't even aware of her suffering, but those who knew stood beside her and gave her strength. She had a huge ring of dear friends who supported her until the end - her aunt Margie C., Barb M., Canaan and Nicky H., Cindy C., Randall I., Nancy W., Joni T., Carolyn T., Val M., Ruthie W., and so many more. You will always have our love and gratitude for the help you gave her. Jennifer was a beautiful lady, wise, kind, and wickedly funny. We miss her terribly. Once we get organized again, we will invite Jen's friends to gather and celebrate her life. Please, no flowers. If you are able, it would make Jen happy if you donated blood, and please, support the fight against cancer.
