MYRTLE DEREUCK (nee ROLFE) 1923 - 2017 Change in Location of Service The family announces the passing of Myrtle DeReuck on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Concordia Hospital. Myrtle is survived by her sisters Jean and Josie. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph "Joe", her parents Albert and Velma, sisters Elizabeth and Abbey, and brothers Martin, Steve, Kenney and Albert. She and Joe met while working at MacDonald's Aircraft during the Second World War. Their union in 1943 produced three daughters: Jean (Rawluk), Valerie (Jeffrey) and Carole (Miller). They gave birth to the following grandchildren, Louise, Laura and Lynne (Rawluk); Glenda, Heather and Shannon (Jeffrey); and Colin and Kristy (Miller). Of the grandchildren's marriages, great-grandchildren Jeffery, Aiden, Quinn, Melanie, Jennifer and Hudson came along, followed by great-grandchild Taliya. Being proponents of strong family ties, all were cherished and spoiled by both Myrtle and Joe. Myrtle and Joe enjoyed the outdoors with cottages at Red Rock Lake in the 1950s and 1960s with their daughters and occasional boyfriends, and more recently with the grandchildren at Deighton Beach. They were always a close couple, travelling extensively in North America by car and on cruise ships. Other interests included gardening, especially flowers, as well as fishing and sewing. Myrtle was always ready to dance when she heard the first strains of a big band orchestra. Joe and her sons-in-law followed as well as they could, though she was frequently two steps ahead of them. She will be remembered for her strong will, temperament, and constant cleaning of each of her daughters homes. She was dubbed "Mrs. Clean" behind her back. A celebration of her life is planned for November 18, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Transcona Legion, 2nd floor, 117 Regent Ave. East. Please drop in for a snack and share some memories and renew old acquaintances. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
