Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTINE WOOD (nee ROMANO) Peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017, Christine Wood passed away at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 96. Christine will be dearly missed by her children, Larry (Elaine) of Chicago, IL, Victor (Judy) of Victoria, BC, Betty (George Hallin) of Minneapolis, MN, Howie (Kim) of Winnipeg, MB, Bruce (Ming) of Ottawa, ON, David of Vancouver, BC, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Puchalski of Nanaimo, BC, and sister Donalda Paradoski of Selkirk. She is lovingly remembered by her 17 grandchildren, Catherine, John, Peter, Teresa, James, Scott, Jeff, Stephanie, Andrea, Mark, Jeremiah, Amy, Sara, Laura, Kai, Nicholas and Aidan, and 14 great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life in her later years. She was predeceased by her parents, 12 of her siblings, husband Howard, and sons Robert and Kenneth. Christine was born on October 15, 1921 to Ukrainian speaking immigrants, William and Alexandra Romano. She was raised with 13 siblings on a farm in rural Manitoba. She met and married an athletic R.C.A.F. airman in 1941 (Howard Wood Jr.) and supported his legacy as an outstanding curler from the end of the Second World War through the 1970s. Together they raised eight children. A brilliant and beautiful woman, she guided the development of her progeny to assume leadership roles in Medicine, Real Estate, Business, and Community Development. Mom was an example of pure, unconditional love. She was a true matriarch. She put all her children's needs before her own. She was proud of the education they received and was a avid supporter of Dad's career and his curling accomplishments. Mom's biggest joy was being with her family. Whether at Gimli or at Clearwater Bay, as children and then as young adults, there was always family fun and delicious meals. At Christmas, as we all became adults, we awaited her packages of pecan and shortbread cookies. Mom was an expert bridge and card player, as well as a curler and badminton player, but most of all she was our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. A private, family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at West Park Manor for their great care, and to Doreen Whalley and Raffaella Bellisario for their cheerful visits that made Mom's days all the more brighter. She shall be missed but never forgotten. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

To Christine’s family and extended family: Your mother (and grandmother) was such a wonderful, considerate, conscientious and comforting person; as a child, I spent so much time at your home on Kingsway, swimming in the pool you once had, playing ping pong, playing football and basketball; going to the park for picnics and sports; celebrating holidays, and watching The Twilight Zone! Your mother was so kind, and there was always food and drink to be had in her home. In later years, at Clearwater Bay, your mother was, again, always hospitable and inquiring in a thoughtful and genuine way. As a child and young person your mother was an integral part of my life, my neighbourhood, my community. I am pleased Christine enjoyed a long life, and I wish her peace. Cheers!
