PAULINE (POLLY) JACHNICKI (nee BODNAR) April 13, 1923 - November 7, 2017 Peacefully, with her daughters by her side, our mom and baba passed away, at the age of 94, at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Dianne (Robert) Smerechynski and Nancy (Jim) Porth; grandchildren Darren (Shauna), Kevin (Barb) and Jayson (Cathie) Smerechynski, Christopher (Kate) Porth and Alyson (Jeff) Pinto; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Erika and Victoria Pinto, Charlotte Porth and Kayden Smerechynski; brother John, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Stanley in 1986, as well as her parents Harry and Ahafia, sisters Ann, Nettie and Helen, and very good friends Joyce Ducharme and Katie Smerechynski. She was born April 13, 1923 in West Ukraine. At the age of six she immigrated to Canada were she settled with her family in Elma, MB. It was here that she met her husband and they continued to call Elma home while proudly raising their girls. She called Elma home until 2011 when she moved to the Riverbend Manor in Whitemouth. She was always busy and on the go, helping out her family and the community. She also found time to work at the Whiteshell Egg grading station. She was one the best cooks around, spoiling us with her borscht, perogies and many wonderful sweet treats just to name a few. Her generous nature made sure others were able to enjoy her cooking too, by volunteering her time and talents to many events. If you were to visit her you were sure to enjoy wonderful food and you weren't allowed to leave unless your arms were full of treats to take with you. If she wasn't in the kitchen we could find her in the garden. She enjoyed gardening and also loved to walk among the plants and flowers enjoying their beauty. Other activities that kept her busy was her long time membership in the Reynolds Seniors Club, visiting bingo halls with her friends, and playing rummy with her grandkids. She also made sure to make time to watch her favourite TV show Dancing with the Stars. Without a doubt her favourite thing to do was to spend time with her loved ones. "Elma Baba" would always light up when any of us kids would come by. She made us feel so special and loved. These are the things we shall cherish. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home for all their care and compassion. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elma, MB. Interment to immediately follow. Officiated by Reverend Archdeacon Stefan Tyrawski. Pallbearers will be Darren, Kevin and Jayson Smerechynski, Jim and Christopher Porth and Alyson Pinto. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church cemetery fund, attn. Fred Kulachuk, Box 118, Elma, MB R0E 0Z0.
