LYDIA SADER Peacefully, on November 9, 2017, with loved ones by her side, Lydia Sader passed away at home, at the age of 84. Left to lovingly remember her are daughter Susan and son-in-law Alan, brother Chris and his wife Annie, sisters-in-law, Wanda, Simona, Nellie, Helen and Vivian, and numerous and much loved nieces and nephews. Lydia was predeceased by husband Adolph, son Christopher James, brothers, Zacharias, Joel, Donald, Morris, Dennis and Alex, and sisters, Ruth, Ezra, Jessie and Agnes. Lydia was born in Big Trout Lake, Ontario, in 1933, to parents Eila and Isaac. As a young girl, she was taken to residential school in Sioux Lookout. She left school in grade six to return home and worked as a helper in a clinic. This is when she decided to become a nurse and she returned to school. Eventually she moved to Winnipeg to attend nursing school, and became a licensed practical nurse. She moved to Ninette, Manitoba and worked at the Ninette Sanitorium, providing care to tuberculosis patients. This is where she met Adolph, and they married in 1956. They moved back to Winnipeg and had two children, Christopher James and Susan. She loved being a mom, and supported all of her children's interests - music, skating, karate and drama. She never missed a recital, and always put her children first. Lydia worked at the Rehabilitation Hospital until she retired at the age of 55. Upon retirement, Lydia became a volunteer extraordinaire, sharing her time and skills with numerous organizations, including Knox Day Care, Habitat for Humanity, Health Sciences Centre and her beloved Holy Trinity Anglican Church, where she helped provide hot lunches and clothing to the homeless. Lydia literally touched thousands of lives through her years as a nurse and volunteer. In her spare time, she enjoyed being out and about, going to movies, musicals, Folklorama and day trips. Spending time with family was very important and precious to her. There were many family dinners and celebrations, and Lydia never failed to bring her famous Oven Fried Rice. The last few years of her life were difficult, with advanced arthritis and other health issues taking their toll. However, she never complained. She continued to put one foot in front of the other, until she couldn't anymore. A big thank you to the Palliative Home Care Program, which provided the support and necessary resources to fulfill Lydia's wish to die at home. Their kindness and compassion during this difficult time are very appreciated. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church on the corner of Donald Street and Graham Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Mission Ministry. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE ((204) 949-2200
