JOSE CARLOS MAIA 1944 - 2017 Peacefully on November 10, 2017, José Carlos Maia, beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away at the age of 73, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alda; his children Ana, Marcia (Damian) and José (Erin); his grandchildren Luke, Sam, Amelia, Grayson and Landon; his mother Angelina; and his sister Maria (Angela and Ricardo). He was predeceased by his father Manuel. He also leaves behind many cousins and will be missed by his wife's family in Ontario. José was born on October 12, 1944 in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. He came to Canada in 1962, married Alda in the Azores in 1968 and they settled in Winnipeg. He worked at the Canadian National Railway in Winnipeg for 38 years until his retirement in 2000. José, along with his wife Alda, worked together to raise their family with faith, love, enduring family values and a strong work ethic. José loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his love of soccer and the way he made people feel at ease with his sense of humour and smile. The family would like to thank St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Seven Oaks Hospital, CancerCare Manitoba and Palliative Care staff for their gracious help and support. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin Street. A reception will be held at the church following the mass. The interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church and CancerCare Manitoba.
