BRUCE RAYMOND WOODWARD Born: February 26, 1950 Date of Passing: November 8, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Raymond Woodward. Bruce spent his final days surrounded by family and passed on November 8, 2017 at the Health Sciences Centre after a sudden, short battle with a rare brain disease. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 40 years, Christine (nee Skyler) and their three children, Robin (Robin Richards), Peter (Clare O'Connor) and Paul, along with his sisters Grace McGill, Adele (Barry) Korolyk and Wendy (Ron) Naaykens, brother-in-law Giovanni Corona and their families. Bruce was predeceased by his mother Agnes Woodward (nee Ellett), father Edward Woodward, sister Carole Corona, brother Ed Woodward, and his beloved in-laws Bernice and Peter Skyler. Bruce was born on February 26, 1950 in New Westminster, BC. At six months old, his family travelled by Trans Canada Rail to settle in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bruce and his five siblings grew up on Helmsdale Avenue and attended Angus McKay Elementary School. High school years were spent at Miles Macdonell Collegiate, where he met Christine Skyler. They married in 1977 and purchased their first home on Werrell Crescent, where they had Robin, Peter and Paul. The Woodwards moved to East St. Paul soon after Paul was born, and made lifelong friends with neighbouring families in the community. Bruce was known for volunteering with the YMCA Y's Men and spending countless hours coaching community club soccer, hockey and roller hockey teams. He will be remembered for his readiness to help out with anything from fundraising to the odd construction job. Bruce also loved building and expanding his summer cottage at Victoria Beach. He was happiest when hosting visitors at the lake, and had a unique ability to make each guest feel like family. Weekends were complete with BBQ, fishing, card games, bike rides, music and laughter. Throughout these years, Bruce also enjoyed a successful career. Encouraged by his brother-in-law Barry Korolyk, Bruce became an electrician after high school. He thrived in the trade, working with Kuman-Shipman, until founding Tri-Power Electric Inc. with best friend Tom Mazur and brother-in-law Ron Naaykens. Bruce's exceptional work ethic and integrity earned him the esteem of his colleagues and the deepest admiration and gratitude of his many apprentices and employees. In work as in life, Bruce was a selfless leader and mentor, who never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge, wisdom, and kindness. Bruce was dedicated above all to his family, enriching their lives with endless laughter, countless quotable one-liners, and a code of generosity. Bruce's legacy will live on through his loved ones. His grandchildren, the first of whom is expected in April, will learn to honour the ideals that he embodied. A part of us dies with him. A part of him lives with us. A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at St. Boniface Golf Club, 100 Youville Street, on Tuesday, November 21 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Lake Winnipeg Foundation (lakewinnipegfoundation.org)

  • Being a close friend of Paul, I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to get to know Bruce over the years. From a unforgettable week at Moon Palace to the many weekends at Victoria Beach, Mr. Woodward would always make me feel welcomed. His endless love for his children was undeniable but even I felt his support and encouragement. He truly made me feel like I was a part of the family and this kindness and generosity that Bruce always emitted is something I'll always remember. I'll never forget Bruce's laughter, jokes and always upbeat attitude. It was truly contagious. Some of his one liners like "top drawer" will stick with me forever. My condolences to the family. Sending you all my love and thinking about you during this time. - Posted by: Katelyn Sinclair (Friend) on: Nov 18, 2017
